Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Another Rant on the subject of this article: Ayse Özgün: Sweet and sour matters

NOTE: I only posted this one so you all can see how stupid the woman is who is in the dialogue... My favorite part is where she says (when talking why Turkey shouldn't apologize for Armenian Genocide) "They don't even consider the massacres inflicted upon the Ottoman subjects" (Ottoman Subjects being Turks) - yeah, lady, Armenians weren't Ottoman Subjects? Yes they were but to Ottoman Turks they were viewed as "dogs", "pigs" and "infidels", so of course they were a subcatagory of Ottoman culture a creation that led to Genocide. Furthermore the "Ottoman Subjects" that she is suggesting were massacred by Armenians also so happened to be in the army. Yes, thats right, be sure to hide the fact that it was a poorly armed Armenian militia defending themselves against a well equipped Ottoman Turkish Army. You think you're smooth but you are pathetically inept...

    OPINIONS

Ayse OZGUN I attended a luncheon given by ex-politician Onay Alpago
the other day along with Ruhat Mengi of Vatan, Deniz Adanali, and
lawyers Hulya Gulbahar, Aydeniz Alisbah Tuskan, Nilhan Madence and
Canan Arin, all ladies with established careers, where we discussed
many matters, but my column can only accommodate a few so I'd like to
    share them with you.

"Could we organize a political party made up of women, including
    men,of course?" I asked.

"We sure could," said Gulbahar. "That has been my dream for the last
    10 years."

"Do you sincerely think we can reach out and favorably touch each
and every woman and man in this country?"

"Of course, we can. All the political votes that hit the ballot
boxes are a result of women's efforts. If it hadn't been for the
tireless work of thousands of women calling on each and every
household in Turkey and talking to the ladies, would AKP have come out
on top as it did? I'm positive we can accomplish the same."

"Onay Hanim, you are experienced in politics. Do you believe women
can be successful in such an endeavor?"

"Ayse Hanim, establishing a political party is no complicated
matter. It is when voting time comes around that one cannot be so
certain of the outcome. I'd like to remind you that such a party was
established after the 1960 coup, but when the next election results
came in, the requisite number of votes were just not there. It could
    be a futile effort."

"Even if it were possible," continued Arin, "Will we have gathered
the expertise that is necessary to run the Turkish Republic?"

"I see your point," I said. "Take the Cyprus and Armenian
issues. How successful could women be on such critical matters? If the
EU insists on an 'apology' as it seems to be doing subjectively, how
keen will women be in changing the EU's mind to look at the problems
objectively? As we all see, they are adamant and insistent as they
review the issue through the diaspora's eyes. They build memorials,
lay wreaths, pass laws in their parliaments to sue and possibly fine
or jail anyone who claims there wasn't a genocide.

"That's right," said Adanali. "They don't even consider the
massacres inflicted upon the Ottoman subjects."

"Our government today is facing some tough choices, and I don't see
how it could be any easier for anyone else."

Just then the waiter placed a bottle of red wine on the
table. Seeing the uncorked bottle, Mengi told us the story of three
men who ordered three bottles of very expensive wine the other night
at this same restaurant, giving mean idea that I impulsively acted
    upon.

"Canan, do you have your camera with you?"

    "Yes I do."

"Listen. I'm going to ask the waiter to bring a bottle of Petrus
wine, which I understand costs around 40,000 YTL, and place it on the
table andhave a picture taken. Then he can take it back. Don't you
think that'll be a splendid picture to remind us all of today?"

They all laughed and agreed, so I proceeded with the plan.

"Excuse me, waiter! Do you have Petrus wine here?"

    "Yes we do, Ayse Hanim."

"Please, could you bring us a bottle of Petrus and put it on our
    table?"

"Of course, Ayse Hanim," and off he went to fetch it.

A few minutes later there was a tap on my shoulder. I turned and saw
    the sommelier.

"Ayse Hanim, sorry to bother you but if you wish to see a bottle
ofPetrus, you will have to come down to the cellar with me."

"Could you bring one up for us?" I asked.

    "I'm afraid I can't," he replied.

    "Can you tell me why?"

    "Because they are all sleeping."

"Couldn't you find one that is awake? Or perhaps rouse one from its
    sleep?"

"I'm afraid that's not possible, Ayse Hanim. I'd be happy to take
    you down, though."

My plan had gone to pieces.

"Listen ladies, as you see, we cannot even bring a bottle of
Petrusto our table for a picture. How do you expect us to solve the
Aegean and Armenian problems among all the others? I think we should
put this plan aside and continue to work on stopping violence against
    women."

"Which reminds me," said Arin. "Did you know that Scottish women
want to be beaten up by men?"

"What did you say?" asked Adanali.

"Exactly what I said. According to a recent poll taken in Scotland,
Scottish women have declared that they wish to be beaten by their
    men."

We all rolled our eyes and ordered our salads.
