DIPLOMACY
ANKARA - Turkish Daily News
The parliaments of 15 countries, in addition to the Greek Cypriot
administration, which is not recognized by Turkey, have adopted
resolutions upholding allegations of Armenian genocide at the hands
of the late Ottoman Empire in the last century, Foreign Minister
Abdullah Gul said yesterday.
The parliaments of Argentina, Germany, Belgium, France, the
Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Lebanon, the Russian
Federation, Slovakia, Uruguay, Greece and Poland along with the Greek
Cypriot administration have adopted draft resolutions and statements
regarding the alleged genocide, said Gul, responding to a written
question from Hatay deputy Mehmet Eraslan from the opposition True
Path Party (DYP).
Gul said the Foreign Ministry would take the diplomatic initiative
and in a bid to hinder the adoption of such draft resolutions, would
contact the ambassadors of the countries bringing the alleged genocide
claims to the agenda of their national and local parliaments.
