  • Romanian Public TV Broadcast on Armenian Genocide

    /PanARMENIAN.Net/ November 22 the Romanian Public TV cultural channel - TVR Cultural aired an hour-long program on the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire in 1915, reported the Press Service of the Armenian MFA. Ph.D. Catalin Avramescu was the host of the program. Director of the Institute of Contemporary History of Romania, Bucharest University professor, historian Andrei Pippid and diplomat Bedros Horasangian made reports as well. The TV program participants presented documented facts and data on the first Genocide in the 20th century and its organizers. The program was followed by demonstration of documentary shots on the Genocide.

    Romania media have earlier covered the Armenian Genocide topic as well. Specifically the holding of a scientific conference in Bucharest this year that marked the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, establishment of a Khachkar (stone cross), addresses of Armenian MPs in both chambers of the Romanian Parliament, however a special program on the issue at this level was aired on the Public TV for the first time.

    TVR CULTURAL PUTS IN ETHER A TV PROGRAM DEVOTED TO THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN OTTOMAN TURKEY

    YEREVAN, November 24. /ARKA/. The cultural channel of the Romania
    Public Television, TVR Cultural, put in ether a TV program devoted to
    the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey. The program lasted for one
    hour. According to the press center of a state commission on organizing
    arrangements devoted to the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide,
    Catalin Avramescu, doctor of philosophy, conducted the program, in
    which the Director of the Institute of modern history of Romania,
    professor of Bucharest university Andrei Pippidi, as well as a writer
    and diplomat Bedros Horasangian participated. All the participants
    brought facts of the genocide and provided information about the
    first genocide of the 20th century, its organizers, world feedback and
    evaluates. The participants touched upon the fate of the Armenians, who
    survived the genocide and found their orphanage in Romania. Documentary
    materials about the genocide were shown after the program.

    Romanian Mass Media touched upon the subject of the Armenian genocide
    before as well. Particularly, this year Romanian press covered the
    work of a scientific conference in Bucharest, devoted to the 90th
    anniversary of the genocide, as well as opening of an exhibition,
    establishment of memorial cross -stones, the ceremony of lighting
    candles, speech of Armenian deputies in two chambers of the parliament
    of the country and arrangements held in the memory of the victims of
    the genocide in Yerevan. However, a program of such a level and format
    is organized on the Romania TV Channel for the first time. A.H.-
