What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

SEN. JOE BIDEN - RANKING MEMBER ON FOREIGN RELATIONS
COMMITTEE - COSPONSORS ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RESOLUTION

-- Delaware Democrat and Maine Republican Susan Collins are
Most Recent Supporters of Senate Legislation

WASHINGTON, DC ~V Senator Joseph Biden, the senior Democrat
serving on the Foreign Relations Committee and a respected
voice on international affairs, has cosponsored the Armenian
Genocide Resolution, S.Res.320, reported the Armenian National
    Committee of America (ANCA).

Along with the announcement this week that Senator Susan Collins
will cosponsor the measure, this brings the total number of
Senators supporting the resolution to twenty-two. "I am pleased to
be a cosponsor of Senate Resolution 320, regarding the Armenian
Genocide. It is my hope that by remembering the extent of this
tragedy, we will double our efforts to prevent it from happening to
others today and in the future," said Senator Collins. The measure
was introduced in November of last year by Senators John Ensign (R-
    NV) and Richard Durbin (D-IL).

"We are encouraged to see the growing support for the Armenian
Genocide Resolution among senior Senators, including a number of
potential 2008 presidential candidates - such as Senators Allen,
Kerry, Biden, and Feingold," said Aram Hamparian, Executive
    Director of the ANCA.

Senator Ensign is the Vice Chairman of the Republican Steering
Committee, the group that shapes the Senate Republican legislative
agenda. Senator Durbin is the Democratic Whip, the second most
senior position among Senate Democrats. Additional cosponsors
    include:

    * George Allen (R-VA) - The Chairman of the Foreign Relation
Committee's Subcommittee on European Affairs, and a potential
    Presidential candidate in 2008.

    * Joe Biden (D-DE) - The Ranking Member of the Foreign Relation
Committee and a potential 2008 Presidential candidate.

    * Barbara Boxer (D-CA) - Ranking Democrat on the Foreign Relations
Committee's Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs.

    * Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) - The Chairman of the Foreign Relations
Committee's Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs.

    * Norm Coleman (R-MN) - Chairman of the Foreign Relations
Committee's Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere and Homeland
    Security's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

    * Susan Collins (R-ME) - Chairwoman of the Committee on Homeland

Committee's Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland
    Security.

    * Tim Johnson (D-SD) - Member of the Appropriations Committee and
    Vice-Chair of the Ethics Committee.

    * Ted Kennedy (D-MA) - Senior Democrat on the Health, Education,
    Labor and Pensions Committee.

    * John Kerry (D-MA) - Ranking Democrat on the Foreign Relations
Committee's Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs, as well
as a past (2004) and potential future (2008) Presidential
    candidate.

    * Herb Kohl (D-WI) - A senior member of the Appropriations
Committee's Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and State, the panel
that allocates funding for the State Department.

    * Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) - A member of the Committee on Homeland
    Security and Government Affairs.

Committee's Subcommittee on Foreign Operations, the panel that
    allocates U.S. foreign aid.

    * Jack Reed (D-RI) - The Ranking Democrat on the Armed Services
Committee's Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities.

    Business and Entrepreneurship.

    * John Sununu (R-NH) - Chairman of the Foreign Relations
Committee's Subcommittee on International Operations and Terrorism.

The Senate measure is similar to a resolution, H.Res.316,
introduced this June in the U.S. House by Reps. George Radanovich
(R-CA), Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-
Chairmen Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Joe Knollenberg (R-MI). This
measure has 145 cosponsors and was overwhelmingly adopted, along
with a second Armenian Genocide Resolution, H.Con.Res.195, by the
International Relations Committee on September 15th.

The resolution calls upon the President "to ensure that the foreign
policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and
sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic
cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record
relating to the Armenian Genocide." The resolution includes thirty
detailed findings from past U.S. hearings, resolutions and
Presidential statements on the Armenian Genocide from 1916 through
the present, as well as references to statements by international
    bodies and organizations.

The Senate resolution has been referred to the Foreign Relations
    Committee for consideration.

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid Endorses Armenian Genocide Resolution

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid Endorses Armenian Genocide Resolution
--Elizabeth Dole joins Senators Reid and Sarbanes as co-sponsors, bringing the total number of supporters to twenty-five

WASHINGTON, DC--Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was joined this week by North Carolina Republican Elizabeth Dole and Maryland Democrat Paul Sarbanes in cosponsoring the Armenian Genocide Resolution, SR 320, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

"We want to thank Minority Leader Reid, and Senators Dole and Sarbanes for joining with their colleagues in supporting this bipartisan resolution to put America on the right side of the Armenian genocide issue," said Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the ANCA. "For far too long, our government has caved in to pressure--real and imagined--from a Turkish government that has, to our great shame, made Americans complicit in its lies about the Armenian genocide."

These additions bring to twenty-five the number of Senators supporting the measure, which was introduced late last year by John Ensign (R-NV) and Richard Durbin (D-IL). Similar to HR 316 in the US House, the Senate resolution calls on the President "to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States record relating to the Armenian genocide."

The Senate resolution has been referred to the Foreign Relations Committee for consideration. The House International Relations Committee overwhelmingly adopted its counterpart in September of last year.

Senator Allard Joins The Fight To Reaffirm The Armenian Genocide

WASHINGTON, DC, FEBRUARY 10. ARMINFO. Senate Deputy Majority Whip
Wayne Allard (R-CO) agreed yesterday to add his name to the growing
list of congressional leaders for U.S. reaffirmation of the Armenian
Genocide, reports Armenian Assembly of America.

He signed on as the 26th cosponsor of the pan-Armenian Genocide
resolution, S. Res. 320, following several staff discussions with
      Assembly activists.

Colorado's junior Senator, Democrat Ken Salazar, is also a cosponsor.

"The Assembly welcomes the Senator's commitment on this resolution and
looks forward to working with him and his staff to advance S. Res. 320
and reaffirm the U.S. record on the Armenian Genocide," said Western
Office Director Lena Kaimian, who organized and led a meeting with the
Senator's district staff in August to discuss this issue and other
      concerns of the Armenian-American community.

ARAMAC State Chair for Colorado Pamela Barsam Brown added, "The local
effort of Armenians of Colorado coupled with the Assembly's national
efforts, helped secure Senator Allard's support on this resolution. We
are proud to have both Senators from the Colorado delegation
demonstrating our state's fidelity to full and proper United States
recognition of the Armenian Genocide." S. Res. 320, which was
introduced last November by Senator John Ensign (R-NV) and Senate
Minority Whip Richard Durbin (D-IL), calls on the President to "ensure
that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate
understanding" of the "Armenian Genocide" and to "accurately
characterize the systematic and deliberate annihilation of 1,500,000
Armenians as genocide" in the President's annual message.

The Senate version compliments House resolution 316 which was
introduced in June 2005 by Congressmen George Radanovich (R-CA), Adam
Schiff (D-CA) and Armenian Caucus Co-Chairs Joe Knollenberg (R-MI) and
      Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ).

The House bill, which has more than 144 cosponsors to date, passed the
House International Relations Committee by a resounding vote in
      September.

Senator Allard served in the U.S. House of Representatives from
Colorado's fourth congressional district from 1991 to 1996, when he
was elected to the U.S. Senate. In December 2004, Senator Allard was
appointed to serve on the powerful Senate Appropriations
Committee. The Senator also serves on the Budget and Banking, Housing
& Urban Affairs Committees. Last January, he was reappointed by Senate
Majority Whip Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to serve as a Deputy Majority
      Whip.

-- Addition of Two New Republicans Brings
List of Senate Supporters to Twenty-Seven

WASHINGTON, DC - The addition of two Senate Republicans - Rick Santorum
of Pennsylvania and Wayne Allard of Colorado - brings the total number
of Senators supporting the Armenian Genocide Resoution, S.Res.320,
to twenty-seven, reported the Armenian National Committee of America
        (ANCA).

Senator Santorum has been a consistent supporter of Armenian Genocide
legislation throughout his tenure in the Senate and dating back to his
years in the U.S. House of Representatives. Senator Allard, who has
not traditionally supported Armenian Genocide resolutions, backed the
measure after hearing from the increasingly vibrant Colorado Armenian
community about the importance of the U.S. government demonstrating
moral clarity on issues of genocide.

"We want to thank Senator Santorum for, once again, lending his
support to Armenian Genocide legislation - and look forward to
assisting his efforts, as Republican Conference Chairman - to
see this measure brought to a vote of the full Senate at the first
opportunity," said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. "We join,
as well, with the Armenian community of Colorado in warmly welcoming
Senator Allard's principled support for this genocide recognition
        and prevention initiative."

The Senate version of the Armenian Genocide Resolution was introduced
late last year by John Ensign (R-NV) and Richard Durbin (D-IL). Similar
to H.Res.316 in the U.S. House, the Senate resolution calls upon the
President "to ensure that the foreign policy of the United States
reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning issues
related to human rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented
in the United States record relating to the Armenian Genocide."

The Senate resolution has been referred to the Foreign Relations
Committee for consideration. The House International Relations
Committee overwhelmingly adopted its counterpart in September of
        last year.

The full list of all twenty-seven supporters of the Armenian Genocide
Resolution are as follows: Wayne Allard (R-CO), George Allen (R-VA),
Joe Biden (D-DE), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Lincoln Chafee (R-RI),
Norm Coleman (R-MN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Elizabeth Dole (R-NC),
Richard Durbin (D-IL), John Ensign (R-NV), Russell Feingold (D-WI),
Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Tim Johnson (D-SD), Edward Kennedy (D-MA),
John Kerry (D-MA), Herb Kohl (D-WI), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Carl
Levin (D-MI), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), Jack Reed (D-RI), Harry Reid
(D-NV), Ken Salazar (D-CO), Rick Santorum (R-PA), Paul Sarbanes (D-MD),

Opposition to Turkey's denial of Armenian Genocide growing

          24.03.2006 16:54

YEREVAN (YERKIR) - `While it is hard to compare the strength of
lobbies that are working on very different issues, it is clear that
the Armenian lobby is strong and growing stronger, confident in the
knowledge that as Armenians - in the homeland and the Diaspora - we
are collectively the authors of our own destiny,' Armenian National
Committee of America (ANCA) Executive Director Aram Hamparian stated
          in an interview with PanARMENIAN.Net.

`Here are just a few examples of our progress. We launched the
pioneering California-Armenia Trade Office to increase bilateral trade
and create jobs in the U.S. and Armenia. In just the past two years,
due in large part to our efforts to normalize U.S.-Armenia trade
relations, Armenian exports to the U.S. rose from $37.6 million
(2003) to $45.8 million (2005). The growth of our local ANCA chapters
to more than fifty - particularly in non-traditional states such as
Nevada, Arizona, Florida, and Texas. The increased level of assistance
to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, which has amounted to $1.6 billion
since 1991 - and especially the new $235 million Millennium Challenge
          grant to Armenia.

The growing opposition to Turkey's denial of the Armenian Genocide in
the U.S. Congress, the media, and academia. For example, within the
past year the Armenian Genocide Resolution passed a key Congressional
committee by a vote of 40 to 7, a dramatic increase over the 24 to 11
vote on a similar measure in 2000. Also, 38 of the 50 U.S. states
have recognized the Armenian Genocide,' he said.

          First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident."
