Nevruz celebrations show rift in DTP

This week's Nevruz celebrations organized by the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP) in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir have served to expose a rift within the party.
The problems between the DTP and former pro-Kurdish Democracy Party (DEP) member and current DTP member Leyla Zana surfaced during the celebrations in Diyarbakir. Zana, who delivered a speech at last year's celebrations, did not even attend the official section of this year's celebrations.
However, the DTP's Ahmet Turk yesterday denied problems with Zana and said the latter needs time to rest due to health problems.
Due to problems with her party, Zana watched the celebrations with her daughter in her traditional clothes and then left the celebrations.
Moreover, former DEP member and current DTP member Orhan Dogan was also absent from the area. Dogan, however, said that he has no problem with his party but he wouldn't take part in the celebrations due to health problems.
Former DEP members Sedat Yurttas, Hatip Dicle and Selim Sadak were present in the area especially reserved for top DTP officials.
Zana no-show at reception
The problems between the DTP and Zana were also evident at the DTP's Nevruz reception held on Monday.
Zana reportedly received no invitation but was later invited to the reception by phone. She didn't accept the invitation.
It's been claimed that inmate head of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan criticized Zana, who spent many years serving a jail sentence. Zana was offered the position of co-chairman of the DTP when the party was first established at the end of last year, but then withdrew upon Ocalan's reaction.
Aysel Tugluk, Ocalan's lawyer, became co-chairman of the party instead of Zana.
