FILM SHOWING DEDICATED TO ARMENIAN GENOCIDE OF 1915 TO BE HELD IN AMSTERDAM

YEREVAN, April 25. /ARKA/. Showing of films, dedicated to the Armenian genocide of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire, will be held in Amsterdam's "Criterion" cinema on 7 May. The Press Service of the RA foreign ministry reported that discussions between professors of Oxford, Leiden and Edinburgh universities will be held after the film showing.
The Armenian genocide is considered the first genocide of the 20th century, organized and systematically executed by the Young Turkish government. About 1.5mln Armenians were massacred in Western Armenia that was part of the Ottoman Empire.R.O.-0--

Genocide denial bill introduction by Christian Union faction

In a press conference on 1 June 2006 at 11 am, MP Mrs. Tineke Huizinga of Christian Union Faction will present the introduction of a bill to Dutch Parliament that criminalises the denial of genocides and other crimes against humanity. The explanatory note explicitly mentions the Armenian Genocide as one of the genocides meant in this law.

The press conference will be given by Christian Union parliamentarians Mrs. Huizinga and Mr. Rouvoet together with representatives of 24 April Committee of FAON (Federation of Armenian Organisations in the Netherlands), CIDI (Centre for Information and Documentation Israel) and LBR (Dutch antiracism organisation).

ChristenUnie dient wetsvoorstel in tegen ontkenning genocide

Tijdens een persconferentie op 1 juni 2006 om 11.00 uur zal Tweede Kamerlid mw Huizinga-Heringa een initiatief-wetsvoorstel indienen, waarin ontkenning van genocide en van andere misdaden tegen de menselijkheid strafbaar wordt gesteld. De Armeense genocide wordt expliciet genoemd onder de volkerenmoorden die het wetsvoorstel bedoelt; dit staat in de memorie van toelichting bij het wetsvoorstel.

De persconferentie wordt gegeven door Tweede Kamerleden mw. Huizinga en de heer Rouvoet van de ChristenUnie tesamen met vertegenwoordigers van het 24 april Comité van de FAON (Federatie Armeense Organisaties Nederland), het CIDI (Centrum voor Informatie en Documentatie Israël) en het LBR (Landelijk Bureau Racismebestrijding).

Law Criminalizing Genocide Denial May Be Adopted in Netherlands
