MONTEVIDEO, APRIL 26, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY.
Events dedicatedto the 91st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place on April24 in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.
Heads of the local Armenian
communities laid a wreath at 10:00 in the morning to the memorial
plaque placed on the square called "Armenian People's Genocide." As
Noyan Tapan was informed by the press service of Radio Armenia of
Uruguay, after the midday the general ceremony took place on the
Armenia square. The ceremony was initiated by the Uruguay Armenian
multi-union organization. Walter Cardozo, the Parliament Speaker of
Uruguay, Mariano Arana, the Minister of Housing, Territorial Planning
and Environment, Lilian Keshishian, Parliament Deputy of Armenian
origin, Archbishop Hakob Kelenjian, the Armenian church primate,
AGBU school pupils and members of youth groups of unions, others
were present at the event. Historian Alberto Dourejian made a speech
after the state hymn. He touched upon reasons and consequences of
the Genocide. At the end His Holiness primate, with the help of the
Catholic and Gospel churches representatives, held a divine service
dedicated to the memory of the 1.5 mln Armenian martyrs.
