Demonstrators burnt a Turkish flag on Sunday at a gathering organized to protest the so-called Pontus “genocide” in the Greek capital Athens.

The group held here a memorial service for the anniversary of the Pontus genocide, an event that remains disputed.

After the demonstrators laid a wreath at the grave of the Unknown Soldier, the group—consisting of representatives from Pontus associations, political parties and the government—marched towards the Turkish Embassy in Athens.

The demonstrators, chanted slogans “Genocidal Turkey” in front of the Turkish embassy, and plastered posters of protest onto the wall of the guard’s cabin station outside the embassy despite their objections.

Later the demonstrators burned the Turkish flag and sang the Greek national anthem. Meanwhile, footage broadcast on Greek television showed one of the demonstrators stamping on the Turkish flag. Yesterday a gathering organized under the label “Pontus Genocide” was held in Thessalonica yesterday.
