1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:

- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Greeks Going to Return Previous Status to St. Sophia Church in Istanbul

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ “Free Agia Sophia Council in America” organizations has launched an international campaign to make St. Sophia an Orthodox Church again, American politician of Greek origin Chris Spiru stated a press conference in Manhattan. He presented the plan of the organization and emphasized that the matter concerns an international movement initiated in the U.S. which purposes the objective to retransform the Great Church of Saint Sophia in Constantinople into a Cathedral for all Orthodox believers.

He said the Turkish government calls and uses the Church as a museum, organizes trade exhibitions, concerts and fashion shows in it. Sacrilege and desecration is taking place. We will use all the juridical and religious methods to achieve our goal,” Spiru underscored. In his words, simultaneously a collection of signatures will be organized. “Muslims grew indignant over the caricatures of Prophet Mohammed. We assert our right to pray in the church, which is a symbol for all Orthodox believers. I think, the moment when Turkey is striving to join the European Union is quite appropriate for it,” Mr. Spiru said, reported Greek.ru.

These guys are living somewhere else. Ayasofia was the property of the latest King and that King already promised Vatican to make Ayasofia a Catholic Church. Ayasofia was lost by Orthodox people before Turks, and Fatih Sultan Mehmet got Ayasofia from the King, b`cause King already made it his own property.

Actually the Orthodox Church themselves supported Fatih Sultan not their King before the conquest, cause they already saw that King is going to sell the orthodox faith to Vatican in order to get Vatican's political and military backing. Thats why Church supported
Fatih SUltan Mehmet and welcomed him. They even spied and gave valuable intelligence information before the conquest.

These Helenic friends have no idea what they're talking about.

And by the way they can come and pray like the Greek tourists daily come and pray in Aya sofia. Nobody hinders them to pray inside.

Fatih Sultan saved Orthodoxy from Catholism, he would very well let Catholics and Orthodox kill each other and rule both, but he and rest of the Ottoman sultans prefer saving Orthodoxy. He could very well let him make all Greeks catholics or let catholics dominate them, and still get Ayasofia. He preserved all of the art work inside the Church and preserved it, he would very well let Catholics get it and let them destroy it or destroy all of the Orthodoc icons and artworks inside it. Unfortunetly they dont bother to see this.
He also made Armenian church an official entity and made it a seperate church. And now in return he's labeled as "thief"

Could that be because most of the Sultans were of orthodox extraction?

No They are Muslim, even Sokollu Mehmet Pasha or Skollovic who is of Orthodox Serb origin were tied to Islamic faith sincerely. It is nothing to do with religon it is about justice for all the citizens of the state.
Fatih Sultan also sent fermani humayun or sultan's charter to Catholic churches in Balkans, saying all Fransiscan priests and churches are under his protection and the protection of Ottoman state, any offensive to Fransiscans is an offensice to Sultan the charter says. The autentic charter could be found in Archives and a copy of that charter was given to Turkish soldiers who serve in Bosnia as peace keeping forces. The Priest of a small catholic chruch in central Bosnia said they dont understand what's written and asked Turkish army to get a translation, and it was the Ferman/Charter sent by Fatih Sultan.

So basically it's the justice nothing else.

It is not holly anymore their king abolished its holyness. Turks saved it from destruction by the catholics, if the King were successful and Vaticans got the church, you wouldnt see Ayasofia today having those Orthodox icons and artworks. Thats the plain fact you know very well.

In Islam we cant pray where there is a picture or a statue. It part of our religon's stance against idolatry. Thats why the pictures and mosaics are lightly painted without harming. If they have wanted they would have got rid of all of those artworks at once, they wouldnt wait 500+ years and keep it.

You have to tell us why they did preserve it for 500+ years.
