I thought that was the whole point ... to grab attention and for people to look at you and make a big deal about it.

Otherwise, if you wanted to just be unnoticed you would wear a $14 pair of jeans and a $2 t-shirt from kmart or target and trust me, no one would look twice at you

Nah, Seapahn.. well personally I don't do it to get attention. it really makes me feel good when i dress a certain way according to my mood. it ruins my day if i dress in a way that i don't like.

the punks of the 70s and 80s had something to rebel against , a point to make.

in todays day and age, you see a kid walking down the street with a mohawk and you see nothing strange about it. Its pretty normal and acceptable in our culture and society today.

seeing a kid wearing punk clouthing and a punk attitude makes me laugh , its not necissary anymore. There is no point in it. The punks of before had difference reasons for there attitudes and style before, then those of today.

dressing to fit the part of your music is lame.
if i was to dress like the music i listen to, i would look like a complete freak.....not that im not already.. lol. but yeah..

necessity? (since) when was being punk a "necessity"? being punk is an attitude. it was and always has been. just like being a hippie.

maybe different reasons to do it, but nevertheless not without reasons.

i don't dress like that to fit into the music.. i listen to punk music because i like that attitude, and i've adopted it - in my clothing style, choice of music, as well as in my interactions with others.

so re: rebellion, whitelotus, so are you telling me that it would be OK if men started wearing skirts to rebel against stereotypes of masculinity?

I really fail to see how subscribing to any trend is an act of rebellion. I just dress in the clothes that girls buy for me.
