Re: The Quality/Progressive Armenian Music Thread

Well....I was hoping to be able to update the original post as members introduce new bands, so we could have it all in one place, but this forum doesn't allow you to edit after a certain amount of time. So, as much as I hate doing it this way (I find it gets very messy), I guess we'll just have to keep adding on.

    Rosy Armen

Rosy was a stunning looking French Armenian singer with a phenomenal voice, as you'll see in the 1st video below. And as you'll see in the second video, she's maintained it quite well even in her golden years. However, finding her music is rather difficult, as I don't believe anything of hers was ever released on CD, unfortunately. You'll have to dig around to find her albums on vinyl, but it's well worth it if you do.

    Hasmik Leyloyan

This is Kanun mastery. Classic folk sounding music that's been jazzed up a bit, but the Kanun echoes loudly with its ancient Armenian sound, and she is a virtuoso at playing it. Just effortless. She's won several international awards for her play. There are actually quite a few of her videos on YouTube, but I will just post a couple. I trust you can find the rest from there.

    Impromptu
    Par Hasmik
It appears that the domain name to her official site expired just days ago, but I will leave it up here in case it comes back up

        Hello Folks,
Could anybody please translate the lyrics of the song "Hasrsanekan" sang by Arshakyans for me? The link is provided above by Crimson.
I need the translation for a friend of mine who particularly liked this song of Arshakyans.
        Thanks in advance.

Sorry for digressing from the topic, but I wonder if Armenians use the word "menengiç" or know what it is?

            Haven't heard of that term.
            Maybe you're saying it wrong?

This song is a true masterpiece.
From the Album "Promise of Love", Manuel Menengichian's "Ararat is ours" song.

It is a true masterpiece.... even though Ararat is now in Turkey's border
