Does anybody know if it is possible to use this song in a short film? Would I be able to contact the owners of the copyright to ask for permission?

Great thread, Arax was a really good find. Here are some artists that I think are worth mentioning here.

      Haig Yazdjian

Born in Syria of Armenian parents, now resides in Greece. Haig Yazdjians albums are a fusion of many sounds/cultures, but predominantly Armenian. Some of his albums are mostly all Armenian. He is a master of the Oud, and has a great voice. I would most definitely recommend checking him out. Albums I would recommend:

      Yeraz
      Talar
      Beast on the Moon
      Haig Yazdjian - Hanin
      Haig Yazdjian on Elen Music

      Ara Gevorkyan

This guy is pretty phenomenal, presenting traditional Armenian music with modern instruments. I think Ani (1999) was his best work.

      Ara Gevorkian - Lernapar

      Zulal

I didn't see these girls mentioned, they are a cappella trio with some truly wonderful voices. Sometimes a bit silly, the sounds they make... but once you get past that it is an exceptional listening experience.
