Though I don't think the "recurring gag between propmasters" explanation the article gives can be correct. Real newspapers date too quickly and they probably need copyright clearance. It must be quite difficult to replicate a fake newspaper, I imagine you would have to assemble the master copy out of smaller A4 sections printed one at a time, then paste it all together to make the newspaper size, then get it copied on an A0 printer that can take flimsy newsprint paper. Much easier just to use a pre-produced prop they probably printed thousands of.
I wonder if the same prop newspaper is used for the blowing-about newspaper pages you always see in deserted (except for zombies) post-disaster street scenes in disaster movies!
