Hey I took a listen and you don't want to know what I think in all truthfulness. Who cares what I think anyways ...
I did download the Unreleased Snippet however and I must say that if that's totally your beat (i.e. no samples ... unless it's a hi-hat or kik or sumthin') then hats off to you as that's a dope beat. Seriously ... I looped it on the intro and currently use it in my sqratch sessions. Maybe I'll get some vid of a session and post it up on Myspace. Good work ... me no likey the other beats so much except that one the DJ remixed ...
"I close my eyes ... " Sweet intro on that one the beat is tight too.
The house remix isn't really a house remix though it's really just sped up and stuttered. Gotta have that metronome kick for house with that open hi-hat ... or you could swing out both of those elements for a two-step house feel. Has a shuffle feeling ...
As far as your vocals I would suggest trying, as an experiment, placing the mic about 2-3' away from you when you record your vocals. This way you'll be forced to really project your voice and it'll take on a way more "hard" and energetic timbre ... just try it and don't cheat (lean in) or scream ... just project well ... let me know if you do try ...
^ Exactly, who cares what you think. Unless you have some sort of feedback, you shouldn't have wrote your first line.
The "Unreleased Snippet" is not one of my productions. Overall, the beat isn't even that impressive, probably why it's just a snippet and not a full-length track. Too boring. Just some old freestyle recorded a long time ago.
"I close my eyes.." - I'm assuming you're talking about "When I Think Back". That's my favorite misc. track so far, and the DJ one is even better. That's the song that got played on the internet radio-station this monday morning.
As far as the house mix goes, it's just something the same DJ (my friend, who's actually a rapper) put together. I don't care if it's 100% officially a house mix. It's just sped up and chopped. Yes, chopped. Not stuttered. Chopping is a form of music, now. It was made because the original "Ride Tonight" got such positive feedback, and people asked for a club version. Hence, the house mix.
The way I record has nothing to do with the overall song. It's all put together in the mixing. Most of these songs are old, that's why some of them are "ehhh". I'm recording with a dynamic mic, so if you can find me someone who records the same way I do, and makes the same/better quality of music, I'll be surprised. You don't even wanna know how bad my setup is. Well, we're trying to improve it as I speak, now that I have an artist to produce for, and also since my album is coming along.
