Ah yes, the beloved 6000 SUX from the original Robocop. I was too young (and not into cars enough) to realize what this was referencing when I first saw it. Years later, it struck me. All the cop cars were Ford Taurus' in primer-like flat black to make them look "futuristic". The direct competition for the Ford Taurus at the time was the Pontiac 6000 (until it was discontinued in '92 in favor of the FWD, first generation w-body platform Grand Prix). So "6000 SUX" was actually a shot at the Pontiac 6000 by the director, or screenplay writer, or producer, or whoever was in charge of that decision. But I don't quite understand how the ad related to the actual production car. The 6000 was mid-sized, not big. The biggest motor it ever got was a 3.1L MPFI V6, so it was far from a gas guzzler. Maybe they tried to roll their dislike for the 6000, and massive American V8's into one package.
