    Re: Which one?

Email them and say that. That's ridiculous. Tell them that now you won't be taking your car and you will also not be recommending them to anyone else.

This car is becoming a nightmare...I just got a call from the mechanic and the damn car didn't pass the smog...he said it didn't pass because the last tune-up wasn't done...he charges $300 to do the tune up...is that a fair price or should I take the car somewhere else?

I shouldn't have skipped the mandatory mechanical classes I needed before getting my license...

          Re: Which one?

What do they care of for the tune-up where you want to take it?

We charge $249.95, for 4-cylinder cars, (add $10 for V6 and add $20 for V8), and we take care of the following:

          -Oil Change
          -Air Fiiter
          -Fuel Filter
          -Transmission Flush, Plus Fluids
          -Coolant System Flush
          -Spark Plugs

Mainly, those. We also top off all fluids and rotate tires. But if that guy isn't doing all of those, it's not worth it.

$300 - 6 spark plugs, Wire set (?), rotor and cap (can't understand his hand writing) and air filter.

$390 - for all of the above plus fuel injection and fuel filter

$340 - for all of the above minus fuel filter...

I didn't ask about the tire rotation...

I'm probably gonna go with the guy that charges $340 since he was recommended to me by a friend who knows about cars...

Now there is another thing that I notice...the steering wheel is a little loose...I did a search on the web and apparently there is either something loose or parts need to be replaced...

              Re: Which one?

$300 and all they do is change the plugs, wires, and the cap? If so, don't do it.

Let me give you a break down on prices, so you can get a better idea. These are average prices, not just what we charge.

              Oil Change - $20
              Air Filter - $20
              Fuel Filter - $20
Transmission Flush, Plus Fluids - $99.95
              Coolant System Flush - $59.95
              Spark Plugs - $5.99 each
              Spark Plug Wires - $30
              Fuel Injection System - $79.95

We usually do the whole tune-up, plus Fuel System, Brake Flush, and more, and it's not more than $350. Try not to get ripped off. Isn't there a Discount Tire Centers near you? Should be.

I already did, and it's my fault...I'm an idiot. I should have done the damn smog before I bought this piece of crap (I actually like the car). I just called the previous owner and she is like: "I'm so sorry about that, I feel so bad, let me know if there is anything I can do for you..."

Well, I told her I'm not going to change the title to my name til all the problems are solved and that if I had known the car had so many issues, I wouldn't have bought it. I'm going to the DMV tomorrow to see what I can do (I just heard I can't register the car as a new owner without passing the smog)...depending on what they say, I'm just going to let her know that I would like to have some of my money back...

                  Re: Which one?

Good luck. If she asked if there's anythign she can do ask her to cover half the cost of the stuff you have to do or something like that. I don't she's legally obligated to do it though, so if she's willing, take it before she changes her mind.

                      Re: Which one?

I have some good news (at least for me!)

So I went to this mechanic my roommate recommended, and I get there and the guy (who's a little older than me) starts hitting on me...I ended up getting a very good deal for my tune-up and he'll also fix the transmission (there was a leak) for only $400... He thinks that after that I'm going out to dinner with him...

                      But I won't...not my type...
