You've got to be kidding me. First of all, she barely speaks Russian though she claims to be fluent. When the Russians {Putin, Lavrov, etc} meet with her, they always say something shocking to see if she can understand...she often has no idea what they're saying;its also an inside joke that Merkel and Putin have about her; Merkel is actually fluent in Russian.

Secondly, like most neo-cons, their views and impressions of Russia are very outdated and still based on the Cold War. Their bluster, miscalculations, ill-treatment and disrespect of the Russians is one reason why the Russians have displayed such force.

Thinking of war in "humanistic terms" will lead to the downfall of any nation. Why do you think Russia is about to take control of Tblisi? Because they brought in enough force that they knew would overwhelm the enemy. That's why we must choose our wars carefully; only when they endanger our own people. You cannot fight "humanely' against an enemy that is supposed to be "inhumane". If the enemy is not "inhumane", maybe the country should not be fighting that war (Iraq).

    No its not.

I have been a United States citizen my whole life, often blinded by the shameless patriotic backwash and almost facist rheotoric of this country. How can America invade two nations with no justification, then call the russians out on using "disappropriate" tactics against a country that openly showed aggressive actions and challenged russian terratorial integrity? How can hypocritical american politicians and unqualified self proclaimed authorities on diplomacy like Condeleenza Rice challenge someone with as much military, diplomatic and politcal experience as Putin? I am sick and tired of this new American and Western led "Humanistic" approach to war. I though war was war, thats is why we as civilized peoples try to avoid it. It is not this "khagh" the modern world is misled to believe. War by definition, is cold, barren, cruel and always ends in loss and death. I dont know how the world was dillusioned into believing that war can be carried out "proporianately or justly" but I can assure you, believing either in any circumstance, will lead to a rather rude awakening. Sorry to banter, but it just bothers me.

Situations like this one is why it's almost impossible to be an Armenian in the Diaspora. Which side should the Armenians choose, to defend the land of their birth or to help their ancestral nation and help Russia?

Javakhk Relatively Calm after Georgian Attack on Ossetia

AKHALKALAK (A-Info)--As military activities in Georgia escalated following Thursday's attack by the Georgian armed forces on South Ossetia, there is relative calm in the mainly Armenian-populated region of Samtskhe-Javakheti in southern Georgia bordering Armenia.

The Georgian government has ordered all draft-age individuals to not leave the country.

According to unofficial sources, 12 Armenian officers from Akhalkalak and Ninidzminda have left for the military zones,
while the entire police departments of Aspindza and Akhaltskha have moved to Tbilisi.

Turkish construction experts and contractors working on the Kars-Akhalkalak-Baku railway have fled the country in a panic and have returned to Turkey.

The Tsalka portion of the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline is being protected by special military forces.

Or even better, Armenia shares a border with Russia.
