In 1998 the Iowa State Constitution defined marriage as between one man and one woman, thus not allowing gay marriage. An amendment was also in the works to reaffirm this. However, the Supreme Court has affirmed the district court decision on the issue which overturned the ban based on the an equal protection violation of state constitution's bill of rights. So, gay marriage is allowed in Iowa. Yay, Iowa!
