His selection for the honor is almost like an afterthought to the election. The explanation for his victory might as well have been "For keeping John McCain and the Alaskan nutbag from holding one of the most powerful positions in the world."

Depends who you ask, and it wasn't like they had a choice. Hitler charges you with tanks, and the gun and Europe refuses to help in your defence? They were forced to sign a surrender. But did many people support Hitler in Austria? Absolutely. Did the monarchy, democracy supporters and the government? No as they knew they were Austrian not German.

Regardless my point still stands that the Nobel peace Prize is filled with nasty people, and good people. Much like all the Knighthoods the British Monarchy has bestowed.
