    Earthquake in Armenia 1988

On 7 December 1988, a severe earthquake hit in Armenia, a former republic of the Soviet Union (USSR); The earthquake killed 25,000 people, injured 19,000 and rendered 540,000 homeless (Gazetov B, personal communication, 1989). Virtually every public service, including water, electricity, transport, fire rescue, and health care, was either destroyed or damaged beyond use. Communication evaporated instantly. Considering the circumstances, however, the local public services' response to the injured was rapid and reasonably effective.

Here is an interesting list what I have found : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haitian_American

I did not know that scholar William Edward Burghardt DUBOIS (1868-1963) was of Haitian origin. I had not thought of it. I thought that he was from Luisiana.

DuBois is a very-very important historical personality in African American History and even in World Black History : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._E._B._Du_Bois

He was in Berlin in 1892 (> 94?). Did he wrote anything about the Armenian Massacres by Sultan Hamid ? There is a research to do with scholars who are specialists of DuBois's work. His manuscripts are in the archives department of Amherst College.
