Apple invented the computer, mp3 player, phone, and, most recently, the tablet.

I think even the Kindle success and the BN Nook motivated this move for them. The Kindle has been selling really well and they want a piece of it.

I got a $150 gift certificate to the Apple store that's been in my wallet for about 3 months now and I can't even find anything that I want from the Apple store.... yet people wait in line for these things. Unbelievable.

"It's really all about the iPhone, but the iPad will generate fantastic sales this year," he said.

Apple also said that iPad owners downloaded more than a million applications and more than 250,000 electronic books on Saturday.

OMG my respect level went up 100x!!!! Archos AND Droid?

I still have my old Archos 5000 jukebox which came out like a full year before the iPod (with 5gig hard drive). The other one I have is a 100gig AV500 but I don't use it too much anymore.

Archos always seems to be a step or so ahead of the pack.

How did I miss this? You're right. Archos does seem to be ahead. They had ~4inch video players before apple went w/ the touch/iphone to provide the larger screen for video and they had the tablet first too. I'd probably pick the Archos 9 10x over this. MSI already has demonstrated an android based one ... there's sure to be a bunch of such tablets out there in a year or so.

I have an older Archos. I've drooled over their tablet already, but I'm not going to be flying as much in another year to justify it. You're right though. There will be lots of them and I'd take an Android one over Apple's. I'm loving my Droid.

I'm glad they chose a horrible name, it sucks when they pick a good name for a bad product. There's nothing special about this thing other than maybe opening up the doors for future actually interesting tablet products.
