Re: The iPad
Apple invented the computer, mp3 player, phone, and, most recently, the tablet.

Re: The iPad
Probably not too many people will realize Archos has had an Android-based tablet out for several months now! I'm sure there will be plenty who will claim Apple invented the tablet tooOriginally posted by Siggie View PostI think even the Kindle success and the BN Nook motivated this move for them. The Kindle has been selling really well and they want a piece of it.

Note pad sales are better.Originally posted by KanadaHye View PostI got a $150 gift certificate to the Apple store that's been in my wallet for about 3 months now and I can't even find anything that I want from the Apple store.... yet people wait in line for these things. Unbelievable.

"We're off to a fantastic start," Marshall said.
But he said the device won't be overshadowing the iPhone, whose sales he expects to top $20 billion this year, eight times his forecast of $2.5 billion for the iPad.
"It's really all about the iPhone, but the iPad will generate fantastic sales this year," he said.
Apple also said that iPad owners downloaded more than a million applications and more than 250,000 electronic books on Saturday.

I still have my old Archos 5000 jukebox which came out like a full year before the iPod (with 5gig hard drive). The other one I have is a 100gig AV500 but I don't use it too much anymore.
Archos always seems to be a step or so ahead of the pack.
How did I miss this?
You're right. Archos does seem to be ahead. They had ~4inch video players before apple went w/ the touch/iphone to provide the larger screen for video and they had the tablet first too. I think even the Kindle success and the BN Nook motivated this move for them. The Kindle has been selling really well and they want a piece of it.

Re: The iPad
I have an older Archos. I've drooled over their tablet already, but I'm not going to be flying as much in another year to justify it.Originally posted by Sip View PostI'd probably pick the Archos 9 10x over this. You're right though. There will be lots of them and I'd take an Android one over Apple's. I'm loving my Droid.

Re: The iPad
I'm glad they chose a horrible name, it sucks when they pick a good name for a bad product. There's nothing special about this thing other than maybe opening up the doors for future actually interesting tablet products.
