As the story gos, so far, women have found it unnecessary to actualy copulate with a man to have kids. hey just go to a sperm bank. Thus ALMOST effectively removing the male from the whole equation. Now, new research from those smarty pants hailing from Japan have discovered that stem cells can be 'persuaded' to grow into SPERM CELLS. Dude, right there in the middle of the conference I laughed so hard I almost plotzed. You know what this means? Poof. Men no longer need submit an application. Second of all, you think it is because of your inseciurity in your maleness that you jump at the chance to call me a raging lesbian just because I brought to the forum information about sperm being obsolete if this new method turns out to work wonders? I for one believe that MEN, read that, MEN, not incredibly immature little panty-wearing thumb-sucking whiny boys like you, but MEN are 'necessary'. Necessary seems like the wrong word to use there, but what the hell, it was the only word I could think of right then. Anyway, I am not an advocate of having children without a husband and a home and a proper family to raise them in, and I am well aware of all the merits of having a husband, not the least of which happens to be fun pleasurable times with a great bed fellow if you catch my drift.

Embryonic stem cells have been PERSUADED to grow into sperm cells, japanese schientists report. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences report that researchers at the Mitsubishi Kagaku Institute of Life Sciences in Japan were successful in growin viable sperm cells by incubating stem cells with other cells that produce a protein called BMP4, which is known to stimulate the formation of sperm cells during the development of an embryo. Some of the stem cells began developing into sperm cells as early as within one day. Many stem cells are harvested from discarded embryos. So far research shows that sperm cells can be made by incubating stem cells and BMP4 protein producing cells both harvested from female embryo's, as well as from male and female embryo's.

As you can see from the section I have bolded and underlined, there isn't really a question of the chicken or the egg because cells harvested exclusively from females have still succeeded in producing sperm cells. Granted, sperm from a male was necessary to make the original embryo, but that is only the initial step and only those initial sperm donations would be necessary to develop a line of sperm that can be used for years and years....

anyway. like i said before. to dolma, i mean patlajan, i have my own opinion regarding the 'necessity' or males/MEN and if you want to refresh your memory about what that is look up and read what i told him. Like I said, if you go back far enough into the past, whether you believe in the Adam and Eve mumbo jumbo, or what have you, you needed a male specimen to start it all, just like you need a woman specimen.

My ignorance of science notwithstanding, I am very weary of this research and the details and I have many questions about this. If this can produce sperm cells, what about all the genetic code that is carried in the male sperm cell that is used to produce that baby. Essentially both male and female chromosomes and genes are fused together. Now I don't understand how this would work if it is exclusively from females. So if you go back far enough you eventually still needed a man.

Quite right mouse. Like I said before, men are needed at some point, initially, to make the process work. However the topic of my post was 'Men Need NO LONGER APPLY' I was speaking of the future, not the initial process. So, yeah, the literature I have found on the process is kindof exhausting and confusing, but necessary to me. I am sure it would be quite boring to anyone else and confusing as well. Anyway, like I said, it was good for a laugh, YESTERDAY. I'm over it now. but still, intersting.....
