I would run the old lady over and put her out of her misery, have mad great heat providing sex with the perfect partner against the bus stop, then drive off with the old friend for some drinks.

Background:

According to my brother (he used to be a recruiter for PWC) this dilemma, while it isn't the most morally or ethically offensive/thought provoking/hard to answer, is a question that pricewaterhousecoopers recruiters ask candidates during group interviews. It's supposed to give interviewers an indication of which of the candidates can 'think outside the box.' You know, sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. People have a hard time doing that sometimes because they like everything boxed up and packaged in easy to retrieve labeled peices.

The problem.... You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first. Or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again....

The story goes that one time it was areally really close call and the candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) was the one who came up with this answer. He said: "I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."

So dstyle and omniscient (andf whoever else came up with the 'right' answer), congrats, you just got yourselves a 100k per year to start job with all these fancy little perks. My favorite happens to be the no limit amex business account

so i believe that there is like one person out there that you click with on every level and are 'meant to be' with. Seriously I have seen so many successful marriages with these people who even after 20, 30 years of being together still make you want to gag sometimes because they are so perfect for eachother.

having said that, while i believe you can be meant to be with someone, i agree with surfer that you have to take a chance on things (no matter how much you might get your heart broken). What, you're going to leave the guy there and tomorrow you're going to be given a chance like that again and he's going to show up somewhere you are and you get to take a chance then? not going to happen. no matter how much we might believe in destiny or predestination even, nothing happens if you just sit there doing nothing. I believe that the road we're supposed to go on is paved, but we put the potholes and the detours and the wear and tear in it with our actions. so i would definitely take the chance if i though something positive could come out of it.

as for surferdude being all touchy about the subject, i don't know where that comes from. maybe you should enlighten us? i agree that sleepless in seattle is a tad facetious in the meant to be department. I rather like meet joe black, though it is also quite farfetched it does show how important it is to act on gut feelings. and if you act on them on the floor of the indoor pool room, well then all the better

and another thing, just because you've had a bad experience in the past doesn't give you an excuse not to give it your all the next time around. seriously when it comes to love and such the ends more than justify the means, and then some.

you can't call someone "the perfect partner" unless you know them...
so I think you should rephrase that to "some hot chic" or "some gorgeous guy"... for you're purely referring to their physique!
I would choose my friend, whether or not he'd saved my life before...

I highly doubt that this question was the ONLY factor they considered when they were making their hiring decisions...
if I'm wrong... They're pretty stupid and THEY need to start thinking outside the box...
