  • Alan Watts

Have you folks heard of Alan Watts? He was an entertainer who concerned himself with comparative religion, he was perhaps the first person to popularize and thus render Eastern philosophies accessible to the west, and he does it in an often humorous way. Nonetheless, he has come across as someone who really knows what "it's all about".

I wanted to share this short video from him here. It's called Music and Life: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERbvKrH-GC4

I'd like to revive this thread as I have just found out about this philosopher via that video. I agree 100% with that video, however I am kind of wary that he's some sort of Wayne Dyer type. What are your thoughts on him? Is he a 'system-builder'? What are some books you could recommend?

I don't know Wayne Dyer or what system building is. Many of Alan Watt's videos and audio tracks on the net have helped me reconnect with my childhood sensitivity towards the nature of existence, so simple and lucid compared to all the stipulations I had gotten used to and taken for granted after "growing up". One of my favorites of his philosophical discussions is the one about "time":

Work as play is a very nice one too, enjoy: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?doc...tts+work&hl=en
