You fool! You omitted "see that" between they and something. It should look like this:

I think that most people are afraid to stand up to bullies or if they see that something wrong is happening. Why? Is it because of indifference or is it because they lack courage?

Is that really your honest answer? Doesn't it bother you when someone innocent gets hurt or insulted or in trouble? It's not a matter of being Superman, it's a matter of your personal morality. Can you see it happening before you, walk away and forget about it instantly?

I have a hard time doing that. I always feel the need to protect, defend the less fortunate or those who lack strength. The only problem I find is that they usually don't defend me or even turn on me. I wonder why that is. And I don't mean physical defense necessarily.

Sometimes I wish I could just ignore it and forget it. It's stressful being affected by every unjust thing.

That's an interesting point, perhaps you're right. I don't consider myself a bully but I am a confrontational person.

That's part of the rationalization here. I mean, most of my life (99%) I never notice any damsel in distress or some kid who got bullied or whatever. I usually don't come across bullies or injustice (whatever that means). Maybe it's because I usually don't like to associate with people and stay to myself which is why I don't come across these things. If you wish you could ignore it, then please do so. It seems to bother you that other people aren't reciprocating. But of course I'm sure this is where you will raise the question of personal morality.

You are lucky. I come across injustice all the time. I guess reciprocation bothers me only when those same people turn on me. You help them climb up and once they are there they do everything in their power to put you down.

How is do you exactly get to the point of not giving a damn? For a long time I've wanted not to care so much. I want to be able to brush things off easily. I want to feel, evaluate and move on. I just let things marinade a little too long and I feel too much. All I want for Christmas is not to give a hoot!

You have to be a little stoic.

Re: Do you stand up to bullies or injustice?

I would stand up for any bully or injustice, I would not tolerate anybody giving me a hard time, I would not stand for injustice in any way shape or form. Its just not acceptable. In today's society you have to be extra extra careful because you can never trust any old person these days you have to watch your back. When Ive travelled to third world countries I have found the people to be more nicer and easier than Westerners like Europeans or Americans. Armenia has very nice people there the girls very kind. I think with countries that have had such hard histories and with the people living horribly it makes them nicer generally cause they know that they are not going experience the likes of being spoilt like countries like the EU US or Canada - we are ruder cause we have everything at our fingertips we take everything for granted. Personally I dont like the attitude that we carry. In Canada we hate the American nationalism, we dont like working with Americans cause we conflict and disagree on lots of xxxx. Our way of doing business is more European like than North American.

Re: Do you stand up to bullies or injustice?

I agree that this kind of "public" society we've got here teaches us to be rather self centered.

You have the corrupt people in third world countries too, that's for sure, but my bet is that the public there knows the wisdom in caring about eachothers' well being.

Unfortunately, here in Montreal, even if we did get a depression which in the past could've glued us back together, we're so divided along multicultural grounds (it is rather ironic) and acceptance for everyone's microculture that we don't really have a standard that comes out of any traditional society's living. We, as a society at large, come together to make money, be in the same class rooms, and go to the same shopping malls. But that's where the togetherness ends.

I do wonder if a major economic downturn would reveal that we are actually more "together" than this. We (as a multicultural society) are just so profoundly affected by the Protestant culture of individualism that it's come to dominate our psyche here. Perhaps that's why we are so apathetic towards innocent strangers in need of help in public places. In consequence, the majority of us wouldn't associate with them, and that's that. It's not just when there are bullies around but also when someone drops their things on the floor and could use a hand, or when someone is crying. We are dumbfounded when this happens, not knowing how to respond other than to keep to ourselves.

If you don't mind let me ask you an honest question: why do you think that this forum is a sort of a men's club?
