Talk about lack of quality in presenting a thread.

First of all, have you ever wondered why Armenians MIGHT act like that? This phenomenon which you speak of isn't just confined to Armenians, it is exhibited in many different peoples who live in this multiethnic and multiracial empire, and when you have interaction on that scale, you are bound to have one person being influenced or adopted by another person.

People are constantly changing and so are Armenians. They are changing and they will continue to change as they interact with other people in a land, which is safely to say, promotes forced integration. What Armenians are now, or were in the past is not the determining factor of what Armenians will be in the future.

If there is one thing I learned this past quarter, is that this problem which you speak of is not minor, in fact it defines history.

ARe we not forgetting those who wore fez's in Ottoman empire and dined with the Turkish government in pre-1915?

Are we not forgetting the Armenians pre 1921 that spoke and wore clothes like Russians?

Are we not forgetting Armenians who spoke and ate and wore clothes like Arabs?

Being part of the diaspora requires us to diverge with other culture, we all want to be accepted, we cant stick out like sore thumbs. Not to say we should forget Armenian culture, but i dunno why we bash others when they take on elements of another culture.

The problem is when they see Armenian culture as inferior because its Armenian.

However when they interact with others there is bound to be change.

I agree, when you change the location of you residence you are bound to be influenced by the new surroundings. Cultures have a tendency of intertwining when there is such a variety of people living in the same region, it’s just impossible to remain homogenous without adopting some of the aspects of the new culture you are living in, nor it is wise. It’s just a matter of how you apply the change and to be able to preserve your original values yet not to subject them to a conflict with the new environment.

What is wrong with Armenians trying to seek their own identity as long as it doesn’t interfere with your life? I don’t like critiquing people on their choice of style or the choice of their music, I am more critical of people who tend to judge what is real Armenianness and what is not. My brother is into spiking his hair and listening to ska, and he is considered to be an untraditional Armenian, yet he has his own individuality and ideas and knowledge of our culture and respect towards other Armenians. Live and let live, and stop judging the “image” by your standards.
