Does anyone ever care about what their family will be going through if they actually succeed in the attempt? That's why suicide is for the weak. Although many have contemplated attempting it, few have actually committed it.

Violette: This, again, can be reffered back to the idea that there is no such thing as selflessness on its own; that selflessness is a type of selfishness. Staying alive for your family is selfish as well.

In addition, using the phrase "easy way out" bothers me. That phrase is used in a context where the harder route is more rewarding in the end. And I know one can argue that in this case, but I think that would be wrong. The reward is after the route. But here after the route is nothingness; no perception. So if one feels that life is too painful and that there is nothing after death, there can be no arguement against such a decision. With the scientific view, there are no post-death drawbacks to suicide.

What????? Uh the last time I checked, that was the definition of SELFLESSNESS......

I'm not saying that that's the only reason why one should stay alive..I'm merely suggesting that it's not fair to want to die...IT'S SELFISH.....get it/>

I used to think that way when I was young, but...

In the words of Red from The Shawshank Redemtion: "Every man has his breaking point."

I believe you have quoted Red before.

                there is no selflessness.
the mere desire to be "selfless" makes one selfish, for achieving it would satisfy one's self.

You are not stupid. It is a line from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

                    However...

We've discussed this before in a thread dedicated to this subject, and yes, there's no such thing as a selfless act, even between a mother and her child.
