        it's Orthodox/apostolic Christmas day.
during the roman times, most of the eastern countries (byzantium) such as russia, Greece, assyria, Armenia, etc... belonged to the orthodox church. and Today, we're not alone celebrating it on the 6th. it's just that most americans are Catholic. otherwise, All Greek and russian and assyrian Orthodox churches join us in celebrating christmas on January 6th. just thought I'd clarify.
Greeks celebrate the X-mas on Dec 25th.
        Armenians on Jan 6th
        Russians on Jan 7th

Now you know it more CLEARLY, no offences please, just to let you know so u won't be confused either

I'm also pretty sure the russian orthodoxes celebrate it on the 7th, but if you want to open my head and shout it in, go ahead..

Also, just because you say the word ORTHODOX 3 times, doesn't mean that the greek, russian and armenian churches are all related. The real term for our church, I believe, is Apostolic (arakelagan). There is a link between our church and 1 or 2 other churches in the world, but it is neither the greek, nor the russian orthodox church.

Now an official holiday in Russia, Christmas is celebrated by the Russian Orthodox Church on January 7th. The resources below describe the history and traditions of this celebration. Although all of the resources are not strictly Orthodox, they provide a background of this holiday that has recently begun to be observed openly again.

The Greek Orthodox Church like the other Christian churches celebrates Christmas on December 25th. The Catholic and Orthodox church were united for over one thousand years and the celebration of Christ's birth remains the same date in both churches. To the Greek people Christmas is second only to Easter in terms of importance.

Better change that "open your head and scream it in"....besides being childish, it doesn't make you look too bright...
