That's why I was asking the HC clinician and not you. I'm asking if a person is hearing voices, but otherwise isn't showing impairment, then do they get the diagnosis (dx) or no.

Also, the legal system would disagree with you as far as the insanity defense goes. Schizophrenics who obey a voice knowing that what their actions will cause harm and are otherwise wrong, wouldn't be able to successfully plead insanity. This much I know from mental health law, however since I'm not a clinician, I don't know what they'd require for the dx of schizophrenia.

** Enough with the bunny talk please... joke made, however off-topic, so let's not beat a dead bunny, chicken, or whatever.

How do you prove a person is hearing voices?

In court? Battle of experts? History? I suppose you could do fmri if you had to? Schizophrenics show abnormal dopamine activity.

Insanity isn't an attractive defense... Despite the media suggestions, I don't think malingering is as common as it's made to seem. It's usually just as long served, except in an institution rather than prison.

You claim to believe that this man heard voices because the media story reported that his doctor said.... that the crazy man said.... that he heard voices.

Sorry where did I say that the man definitely hears voices? It raised interesting questions which we are discussing (or at least I'm TRYING to discuss). No one but you is stuck on THIS guy. In fact, it was you that pointed out the history of mental illness and schizophrenia. The snippet I quoted didn't even have that information. Why are YOU believing the media reports that he is schizophrenic? Classic Kanadahye derailment attempt... Sadly, you were inadvertently criticizing yourself in this particular attempt.

By the way, the media in a lot of places forgets to mention that the man had a history of mental illness, and is notably schizophrenic.

In other reports it says "Bianchini studied chemistry and speaks five languages, but he had not found work. He has lived with his mother for about 20 years in Viareggio, a coastal city in northern Tuscany near Pisa."

I would have probably gone nuts if I lived with an Italian mother until I was 46 too... lol.
