The more developed the brain, the more intelligent the species, and the more variability you see in behavior, and presumably in thought. The apex is in humanity.

Now it is dubious at best to say that no two people have ever had the exact same thoughts. Not only is there no way to determine it, but common sense would suggest otherwise. Haven't you ever jinxed anyone? Heck, I'll complete ck's sentences every time I talk to her, or say something right before she was about to say it. I don't think this phenomenon is all that uncommon.

Sleuth, your explanation (while very possible) has completely overlooked the points I brought up in my previous post. What about variances in the levels of consciousness from person to person? I got a bit more specific about this in the thread about the existence of a soul. What about people born with mental handicaps? Were they born with no souls since they are incapable of being conscious of their existence? Are they some sort of demons from the underworld? Not every human has the mental capacity of breaking paradigms and pondering such debates as the spiritual vs. material world question.

On another note, the possibility that everything we have come to know as "reality" could be a figment of your mind is very real to me. I've been feeling this even more so over the last couple of years. Long story, but I'll just say I had a bad run in with an ephedrine based product. I've been suffering from symptoms every since, even though I never touched ephedrine ever again after that episode. So far, doctors haven't been able to find anything wrong in the dozen or so tests they've done, so they gave me the usual answer of "anxiety disorder" or "panic attacks". While a lot of the physical symptoms have been nothing short of terrifying, it is the weird mental sensations that have me most concerned. Namely, the feeling of unreality, like I'm existing in a dream I could wake up from at any moment. I go through the usual daily motions and "act normal", but I feel as if I'm doing it from outside my body, merely witnessing everything from a third person point of view. I'm really over simplifying this. The sensations get much more complex, but words cannot explain them. I'll try my best here, as it's brought me to a new place now on my outlook on "reality".

I guess the analogy of a radio suits best. We are the radio/receiver transmitting from somewhere else, trying to obtain a station in the form of mind taking over a body (I'm sure some are going to jump in and call where we're "transmitting" from God's Kingdom), and our current reality is the station we are tuning into. When all the conditions are right (clear skies, strong signal, leading to maximum reception, metaphorical for health), the reality broadcast is crystal clear and life continues in its natural progression. But if the slightest thing goes wrong, the signal falters, and the possibility of tapping out of this frequency (mind/spirit leaving the body we we’re tapped into) is strong. This is a really poor example for what I feel, but it is the best I can do by mere dialect. What causes the interference of this signal? Where does our signal originate or emanate from? More of life’s insoluble queries. Sometimes, I almost feel godly for being on to something and for feeling and seeing what I do. Other times, I think “maybe you should get on some freaking Paxil” LOL. But in either state, the ideas and perceptions this experience has left me with, scary as they may be at times, have also been pretty astounding.

In the search for answers in life, all I've created is more questions.

I would say they are most harmless souls and i never said mental capacity proves exsistance of soul ..not at all...

Energy efficiency. If we used it all, we'd require much more food than we currently require. Because of this, creatures that only used a small portion of their brain at a time were favored by natural selection. We still have an enormous brain capacity, which is what makes us as intellectually advanced as we are, but are still able to get by on the amount of food that we can feasibly consume in a day while still being able to actually undergo intellectual pursuits.

And if Anonymouse jumps in here to say that no, natural selection had nothing to do with it, it makes no difference. Even if the human brain was designed this way, my reason is almost certainly the reason it was designed this way.

We are humans, and yes, humans do share some of the same needs and thoughts, but if you looked closely, I made it a point to say that no two people have ever shared the same SET of thoughts, not just thoughts. Yes, the numbers of combinations are astronomical, but then to say that would mean that thoughts themselves have a random nature, that they are no better than lottery numbers, only governed by probability. Fact of the matter is, that the SET of thoughts are unique to each individual, and are affected by personality, experiences, etc. and there is nothing random about our thoughts.

So are you implying that just because you can complete ck's sentences that you can read her mind? ALL her thoughts? Believe me Loser, if you make that claim, then you are mad. If things were that simple, we wouldn't have such things as wars, divorces, unsolved murders, all the fun stuff. We would just read the minds of the other party involved, and voila! - problem solved.

I realize that neither of us is going to agree with the other on this issue. I believe in a soul, and you don't. Neither of us can prove the other wrong with "evidence", although I have personally have had experiences that cannot be explained by anything of the biological nature. Call it supernatural, call it what you will, but I HAVE experienced things that your explanation fails to address.
