When I was 11 or 12 I had this pet hamster. I forgot to change the water once on a hot summer's day, and I spun it in the wheel when it started to run.

One day I came home and it had died.

My first pet-- and she's all mine is Cookie, my Rottweiler. I got her when she was 3 weeks old, on my 17th birthday. She's the cutest thing in the world but her growl can scare your pants off! She growls at other dogs but loves people. Including the pool man who sneaks into our backyard. I'm not sure she understands the whole guard dog thing.

That's her when she was just a few months old and I was giving her a bath... Now she's a lot bigger.

but labrador retrievers are SO sweet. they're just so friendly. lol. they go and lick total strangers, which makes them the worst guard dogs ever lol.
I dont like dogs that jump on everybody, I'd prefer they keep their horny selves away from me. Whenever I visit my friend in Florida, who has a lab, I make her keep the dog in the garage the whole time I'm there, cause all it wants to do is jump on you the minute it sees you, and that dog is too big, it probably would pin me down to the ground. I dont care if you call it animal cruelty, I've had some scary experiences with dogs in the past and i'm not going to risk my life for a dog.

TigranJamharian there are a couple of things you can do. I would try this. Confine the dog and tell him "Quiet". Ignore all whining and acting up. Wait (yes this can be nerve-wracking) for him to quiet down. After the dog has been quiet for five minutes straight, casually walk in; say "good quiet. Good boy!" and give a treat (if you use them). Next session, increase to 10 minutes, then 15, etc.

This has worked with every crying puppy and rescue dog I've worked with, and it has the effect of increasing the dog's confidence and comfort level with occasional bouts of solitude.

Good luck and please let us know how he's coming along.

lol, he doesn't really jump on people. I mean sure he does get excited, but all he wants you to do is just pet him, and if you don't, he'll just lose interest and go away, and maybe try some time later lol. Labradors have TONS of patience. Mine almost never barks. But he's VERY hyper and he needs lots of attention lol.. and lots of outdoor activities. Which is when I leave the job to my mom haha.

Bigger dogs tend to be less annoying. My friend has a terrier, and he's very ummm antagonistic to people, especially towards kids, he gets jealous and attacks the kids if you play with them... wtf..

Anyway, I want to get a Jack Russel Terrier, a Beagle, a German Shepherd, a daschund, and a basset hound. I know... lots of dogs, eh? lol
