"X" is the letter "KH" in the Russian language. Now, I don't expect you to know that since you didn't actually live in Armenia, which, just to remind you, was a part of the Soviet Union a while back (hence the tie to Russian). Most Hayastancis (that I know) speak/are familiar with Russian. We figured "X" is easier to read and faster to write than "KH". It's called a shortcut. Get it?
