Should "under God" be included in the pledge?

I voted no. I think that it's stupid to make children repeat pledges they don’t fully understand, in order to condition them early. Nothing should be imposed in the academicals world as it is, since it is supposed to broaden your knowledge to be able to choose yourself. It was no different in Yerevan during the Commie time, where we had to get up and shout the damn Communist pledge. As for the pledge, anything government oriented should not be intertwined with faith; it should be left up to the individual, not the country’s mass orientation.

I can probably write those exact words after almost every thing you post.

Typical words of one who agrees with the status quo, regardless of its lack of meaning. Why would I stop whining? It is expressing an opinion in a thread authored so people can express their opinions.

Deism and atheism are both for losers. Common sense and respect are what should be promoted.

"Under God" was added by Eisenhower in an attempt to distinguish the United States from the atheist Soviet Union. It is definitely said in reference to the Christian God.

Children should not be pledging allegiance to a damn flag to begin with. The entire thing should be scrapped.

I agree with the fact that children shouldn't be pledging to a flag in the first place, however I dont think "under God" should be taken out. It doesn't have that big meaning to children as it does to us. I think people should choose what they want, to say the pledge or not and I don't think children can make that choice yet. So there arises a whole knew argument. If children can't make a choice of their own and support their choice, why are the schools, and our government for it? Their must be something behind it, Dont you think?

No. Children should do what they're freakin told. If their parents hate the flag and God so much they can take them to private school. Children with too many freedoms grow up to be the many self indulgent losers we have in circulation today.

Yes. However, I don't remember saying it in middle school, and definitely not high school.

I said it less and less in middle school and when I got to high school, in all the four years there, I remember saying it once in class and that was after 9/11 and because my teacher was so patriotic!

Why do you guys think it is said in elementry and not in middle or high school?
