I'm just a complete loss for words here. It's almost impossible for me to imagine something like that happening to someone. But, well, it did, so...

This is very hard to believe because there were so many things she and that man could have done to help her.
            I see...

i'm not surprised; expect the unexpected in life! i think it's murphy's law: anything that can go wrong, will; parties involved should expect charges of gross negligence brought against them; i'm surprised she survived as long as she did! she probably had deep bed sores (couch sores, more appropriately); i'm surprised she didn't lose her limbs to gangrene from lack of movement; if they couldn't get her off the couch i bet she had some deep open sores (probably down to her bones) infested with bacteria and their toxins; why she didn't die of sepsis years ago is beyond me!
poor soul, she gave up on life long ago, now she's finally free...

I found this image that is eerily applicable.

How the hell can someone sit on a couch for FIVE years? They need to shower, go to washroom and just do whatever...right? In my oppinion its not possible for both physically and mentally to sit with a certain posture for 5 years. I don't care how "down" or whatever you are...it gets boring after a few days at most. If they got a weight issue and thats preventing them from socializing and what not...then go and work out, its that simple. I'm not just saying that either, just cause people got a weight issue doesn't mean its the end of the world...go and do something about it instead of feeling sorry or whatever.

People giving up??? now get serious man...thats just weak. She gave up and we know what happened. She coulda done something about it, but was too lazy or whatever the case was. Matter fact people who "give up" are weak minded individuals...real weak. I'd understand if it was a tougher case....but trasforming into a couch cause of weight problems is in my oppion weak. My bad for all this, but these type of things are next to common sense. If people can stuff a twinky up their mouth then they can pull of a jumping jack or two, bottom line. I'm done.

I'm still trying to imagine this happening....She couldn't even get up to use the bathroom! IMAGINE THAT! I can't imagine a worse fate than not being able to take care of ones self.

You've never seen someone who can't move below the neck?

About this woman, there is obviously someone that kept feeding her if she wasn't able to get off the couch for so long. I don't think this is a case of "neglect" per se ... but it sure as hell sounds like abuse.

The woman can't be blamed as I am sure she was so depressed she had no will to get off the couch. What's completely incomprehensible for me is the mindset of those around her that not only allowed it to go on, they actually helped to make it possible and continue to get worse.
                      this post = teh win.
