To answer the question, not this forum but I've met people from several other forums and it's usually been great. There are a few at hye_forum (wow didn't realize that was a bad word) that I consider pretty good friends and then there are the groups I met on the chevy and jeep forums I visit ... some have actually turned out to be pretty good friends ...
Even though initially I met most of them on the west coast for offroading trips, I actually knew quite a few really well here in the mid west even before I knew I would move here. After moving to Wisconsin, I got to meet many that I already knew from MN, IL, MI, IN, and even a couple from Ohio and further east, in person.
Overall, very positive experience meeting people (non romantic
) I knew from online.

No (none that I recall) ... but I have had to depend on a couple of them for my life! Though sometimes weird stuff can happen once everyone's drunk at the end of the day around the camp fire

Well, I'm glad my rear has been untouched in these meetings ... hmmmmmmm 
Strange things about these forums is that sometimes there are those that lurk around and even follow things closely but don't say much. It's happened to me that I'll go meet up with a group and someone will know me REALLY well (and I mean like down to all sorts of strange details) but I will have no idea who they are. It can also be kind of awkward at times.this post = teh win.Comment
