  • Tragedy in Asia

Has anyone heard about the 9.0 earthquake that just happened in South Asia? It was all over the news here today. The death toll is over 12k and still rising. The major damage was done by title waves that hit 8 countries in the region, which were caused by the earthquake of course. I hate hearing about such tragedies. So many people are left homeless. So many tourists went there for the holidays and wont be coming back home.

What I would like to know is why people were not evacuated before the waves hit; the earthquake was noticed and recorded and any geologist should have known that an ocean earthquake (Indian Ocean floor) of such magnitude was likely to cause title waves. Its one thing to not do your job hurting yourself, but how could they be so careless with so much at stake? I'm so sad for these poor people.

if not everyone mad eit out, any time to run is better than none. this is a catastrophe. how does one count the death of 12000 people? can you imagine walking one buy one and pointing at 12000 bodies and counteing them.. it seems to not be real.. its horrible.

The death toll is more than 23k now. Oh man..I hate earthquakes!!! Sri Lanka alone has about 15k dead. I woke up to this on the news this morning..and after being on vacation for the weekend, this was the worst thing I could see. May God be with them.

My uncle went there with his girlfriend. and parents. They were sleeping while this happened. The water was already pouring into the hotel room. Good thing they woke up quickly.

The authorities moved them into the mountains because there's a high risk of a second tidal wave. They aren't hurt but very shocked

Also a family friend went there to spend Xmas and we still don't have news from him. But I guess he is alright. He uses to wake up pretty early, he could have noticed there was something wrong and flee.

EEK you're all over the place.
And also I hope those tidal waves didn't kill any cats on purpose. My heart would go out to them.

Wow, I cant believe it rose that much. I thought it would cap out before 20k for sure.

I have never been through an Earthquake myself, but stories like this one make me imagine how horrifying it can be. We get tornados here, and that can be scary enough even sitting in the basement.
