The passing of the bishop's staff comes at a time of celebration for the
Armenian church and its Western Diocese. The church dedicated a spacious new
diocesan center in Burbank on April 30, where church members plan to build a
$5-million cathedral. The center, finished with marble floors and crystal
chandeliers, is a far cry from the small rented building on Crenshaw
Boulevard in which the church was housed in 1971, when Hovsepian began his
tenure as bishop. For two years, he lived out of a suitcase, he said.
A FIVE MILLION DOLLAR CATHEDRAL????? MARBLE FLOORS?? CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS?? Once more, armenians trying to prove that they are armenian by building a 5 million dollar cathedral, where the service (correct me if I'm wrong) takes place in english. The crystal chandeliers are justified though, as they truly do enhance the religious experience....siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh......
Think of all the beautiful things that 5 million dollars would have created in Armenia. I'm not even talking about charity. By investing that money, how many jobs would have been created? I mean, couldn't they have settled with a million dollar cathedral, and invested 4 million for a TRULY noble cause?
