As pope a person gains the ability to affect the world in ways most don't, which is why I think he's "special."

Personally, I'm excited about having a new pope. I hope that whoever follows John Paul lets priests get married, or lets women have a more important role in the church.

I disagree with the action of having a pope. The thought of having to ask a mortal man for your sins to be redeemed and cleasned is wrong. The pope was just a man, he does not have the authority nor the power to do so. I will, however give him credit as a peaceful loving man, and an influence to catholics everywhere.

The new pope was elected. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, 78, has been chosen to succeed John Paul II as Pope. He will be known as Benedict XVI.
Interesting fact about him: he has publicly opposed Turkey's entrance into the EU!
