  • Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day (in case someone doesn't know)

What did you guys do with/for your mommy today?

I stayed up till 5 AM and went to the store secretly. I got her three long stem roses one like a peach color and two peach with red tips. I had a sheer gold ribbon at home, and tied them together with it, and put them in a vase. I left them on the table with a card standing next to them. In the card I wrote (in Russian):

    Mama,

    With all my soul
    I congratulate you
    with Mother's Day.
    I wish you strong health,
    success, and much love.

    Your Daughter,
    Svetlana

Now tell me your stories. If you dont have one from this year, just tell another one you've had.

Well... I'm on an Air Force base in Idaho and my Mom is in Glendale, I just called her and wished her a Happy Mother day. If I wasnt working 12 hour night shifts, I would have bought her a gift and a card and Fed-Ex'd it to her. Maybe next year.

All I did was go up to my mother, kiss her and say "I love you". I absolutely refuse to call it "Mother's Day".

Just what are you raving about, I deplore the concept that there has to be a Mothers Day or a Fathers Day, for strictly personal reasons.

The most I'll ever do is give a card just to make them happy.

I feel as Anynomouse about calendars: I have my own. I don't feel obliged to provoke emotions in me according to an externally controlled cyclical calendar.
However, considering that giving is about the other person, I did take the time to congratulate two women of importance; one of them being my Mother. I just made sure that I am celebrating the Mother in them, not Mothers' Day. For me, the difference is not just a nuance, it is of essence!
What if I find someone else when looking for you? My soul shivers as the idea invades my mind.

I came back to L.A. in time (from a birthday party in San Diego) to treat my mother to a nice dinner at a really nice restaurant and thanking her for all that she's done for me throughout my life to raise me into the person I am today.
