Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!


2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."

        Everyone considers the old folk songs to be "good" and "true talented" music. I agree we have had great music, and none can compare to our instruments and melodies. However, freaken 50 years has passed, and anything anyone tries to come-up with is criticized, and the only people who are accepted are the ones who do a re-make of the old folk songs, or carry the same style. Music is something that needs to evolve along with time, and Armenians with their innate genetic criticizing abilties are not allowing it. We're not growing as far as musical Art is considered.

          music does evolve. and it HAS in our culture. and who says us armenians don't support it. Neither Sako, nor Tata sing traditional Armenian songs. but their concerts are always sold out. I think we should flip your thought around. we don't have enough TRADITIONAL MUSIC supporters. heck Aram Asatryan has sooo many fans, it's sick.
          but Folk or traditional music is the type of music that originates among the common people of a nation or region and spreads about or gets passed down orally. it's not Rock, or classical or baroque. it MUST NOT evolve. Certain people have started it. In this case, our ancestors. and that's why we wanna keep it alive.
          and I don't know about you, but I think It'd suck sooo much if someone like Paul Freakin Baghdadlian was the representation of Armenian music at ANY event.

            I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. The only thing accepted nowadays is rabiz: a preferably fat guy with a nasal voice singing the ugliest lyrics, while being accompanied by kurdish music performed on the ever so beautiful sound of the keyboard. Call me chauvinistic or whatever, I have come to believe that we deserve better. Foreigners deserve better also. The only introduction that they're receiving to our music is Aram Asatryan singing "sharjir sharjir sharjir sharjir" which is actually a direct translation of a turkish song. We have better to offer, and we're going with garbage.

            I am not one of those who won't dance to Aram Asatryan (except that Sharjir song), and I enjoy Tata a lot, but when we are losing our true music at their expense, something's just wrong. The finest example of this was when I went to an armenian music store to buy a CD for my mom on mother's day. She loves Flora Martirosian, Orfelia Hambartsumian and the like. So I go in the store, and there are at least 30 asatryan CDs on display (one of them portrays him standing proudly in front of the american flag), as well as other classics such as Jonnig and Maxim or whatever. When I told the guy what I was looking for, he had this weird look on his face, and he goes "Flora Martirosian, Roupen Matevosian....took adang paner goozek gor......", and he finds like 3 CDs at the back of his store.

            All this to say that not only is bad music accepted, it is embraced.
            I also find it unfair when you say that whatever is new is rejected. Alla Levonyan is new, and although it conserves an armenianness, it's certainly not traditional. Even purists like my dad enjoy it. Gor Mkhitarian is also doing his own thing, and I really enjoy his music. Same thing with Bambir (though I've heard just a bit of their music.)

            All three of these artists have put quite some effort in their music, and that is something I appreciate. But when every other idiot gets on stage singing stupid rhymes like "akh Hayasdan, kezi shad ge sirem yes aysor...im siroonigs anooshig e amen or", let's at least respect our nation enough to not congratulate it.

                fireburntinhell, say what you will, mister X is just an ugly name for an armenian singer. The fact that it has ruined his credibility before having heard his music speaks volumes. I will buy his CD this summer in Armenia, and I'll give you an honest opinion. If it's good, I'll try to find him and convince him to change his name

                      are you suggesting that Mr. X guy is a better singer than Roupen Hakhverdian and Artur Mesjian and Harout Pambookjian and Tata???
