Originally posted by thedebutantedude, there's no mystery. even if the person doesn't look black. as soon as he says there's a drop of black blood in him, then he's considered black by society (hence the one-drop rule).
the reason i typed the question is because it gets us thinking about how society thinks and things like that, not because i was really wondering about what's black or white. it's just strange how when a child has a drop of white blood, the child is still black. but when he/she has a drop of black blood, he's automatically black (even if he/she doesn't look it).
Maybe, that's the point I'm trying to make! What if I find someone else when looking for you? My soul shivers as the idea invades my mind.

we're not here stressing to figure out the point you're trying to make. i'm sure you know what you're saying.
but the point that matters here is that when i posed that question, i wasn't expecting an answer (nor could anyone give me one that covers it all). all i wanted was for people to think about it and move the thread along with their own questions.

Aren't we always surprised when reality proves to be different than our expectations?

look, first, please don't think of comments on your posts as judgments on your thinking.
Second, you simply missed my point and I tried several times to explain it to you. However, you keep going off on a tangent and try to start an argument with me, when I had no intention to argue nor to present this topic as an argumentative one. You ask me to define this society I speak of, you indirectly call me an idealist, when you know very well that the french guy you brought up would be classified as black by anyone here who believes in the concept of racial difference, etc. Would you prefer that I limit my def. of society to the American one I referenced in this case? If that would help, then by all means let's do so.
