The Louvre is closed one day a week... it used to be Thursday I think. If you're limited on time and are planning things ahead of time, check that!

It's closed on Tuesdays.

Also, there are sections of the museum that are closed on certain days - last time I was there I was annoyed about not being able to see the "near-east" section, which contains Coptic, Assyrian, and (I presume) Armenian stuff, because it was closed.

Because it's France and they probably don't have enough French people to staff the whole building at one time.

lucky you I was planning to head off to Europe after US, but unfortunately work commitments would not allow it.
