    Well said.

I think too many people confuse religion with the divine. I like that bumper sticker, “God is too big to fit into a religion.” (and also that one... "We make a great team. I'm lost, you follow." )

Antecendent unclear in these metaphysical/supernatural 'phone calls' :

    Headstrong to take on anyone
I know that you are wrong and this is not where you belong
    I can’t give everything away
    I won’t give everything away

    --One Thing Correct, Finger Eleven
    If I traded it all
If I gave it all away for one thing
    Just for one thing
    If I sorted it out
If I knew all about this one thing
    Wouldn’t that be something?

--No Woman, No Cry, Bob Marley
Good friends we have, oh, good friends we've lost
    Along the way.
    In this great future, you can't forget your past;
So dry your tears, I seh.

    No, woman, no cry;
    No, woman, no cry.
'Ere, little darlin', don't shed no tears:
    No, woman, no cry.

    --Battlefield of Love, Lenny Kravitz
    I am a soldier
    A casualty of love
    I've been from heaven
    All the way to hell
    I've had a journey
Much more than I can tell
    I've got stories
Much more than I can sell

--If I Ever Lose My Faith in You, Sting
You could say I lost my faith in science and progress
You could say I lost my belief in the holy church
You could say I lost my sense of direction
You could say all of this and worse but

If I ever lose my faith in you
There'd be nothing left for me to do

Some would say I was a lost man in a lost world
You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV
You could say I'd lost my belief in our politicians
They all seemed like game show hosts to me

I can sense the tension between us growing.

But, what sense are you using? I love you. I don't have tension, do you?

                  Ok then...

I hope you don't feel that I'm making fun of religion. I think what you (not just you, but in general) think/believe is great, for you, so long as your religion doesn't harm. (Christianity has done both major harm, and good...) I just have a very hard time with 'religion' being forced onto others. Religion and ethics are very different things. Tell me something about what you think is unethical, and we'll have a discussion.

Many issues 'debated' right now in politics are not 'debated' at all. They are 'faith based.' I am VERY certain that some of these 'faith based' arguments are BUNK.

But, if tell me the reason is 'someone said so,' how can we have a discussion?

                  So... let's talk.

                      Quick sample.

                      I LOVE THIS SONG...

--Christians and the Pagans, Dar Williams

Amber called her uncle, said "Were up here for the holiday,
Jane and I were having solstice, now we need a place to stay."

And her Christ-loving uncle watched his wife hang Mary on a tree,
He watched his son hang candy canes all made with red dye number three.

He told his niece, its Christmas eve, I know our life is not your style,

She said, Christmas is like Solstice, and we miss you and its been awhile,

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,

And just before the meal was served, hands were held and prayers were said,

Sending hope for peace on earth to all their gods and goddesses.

The food was great, the tree plugged in, the meal had gone without a hitch,

Till Timmy turned to Amber and said, "Is it true that you're a witch?"

His mom jumped up and said, "The pies are burning," and she hit the kitchen,

And it was Jane who spoke, she said, "It's true, your cousin's not a Christian," but we love trees, we love the snow, the friends we have, the world we share,

And you find magic from your god, and we find magic everywhere

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able.

And where does MAGIC come from? I think magic's in the learning,

Cause now when Christians sit with Pagans only pumpkin pies are burning.

When amber tried to do the dishes, her aunt said, "Really, no, dont bother."

Amber's uncle saw how Amber looked like Tim and like her father.

He thought about his brother, how they hadn't spoken in a year,

He thought he'd call him up and say, "It's Christmas and your daughters here."

He thought of fathers, sons and brothers,

so then his own son tugs his sleeve, saying, "Can I be a Pagan?

Dad said, "We'll discuss it when they leave."

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,

Lighting trees in darkness, learning new ways from the old, and Making sense of history and drawing warmth out of the cold.
