  • Retrogames

I'm aware that there have been video game threads before. This thread deals with retrogames, read up on it before you post.

So does anybody play the classic games anymore? Today I got really nostalgic and played Super Mario All-Stars. It was fantastic. I started to dig up some precious relics, such as my old colorless Game Boy and Game Gear.

I still believe that God's, Allah's, Yahweh's, Zarathustra's and Japan's greatest gift to the world is the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It had some of the greatest games ever. Aladdin, Chrono Trigger, Final Fight, Goof Troop, Street Fighter, Super Mario World and Tiny Toon Adventures were some of my favorites. There are probably more, but those are the ones that first came to mind.

I was also quite the Sega Genesis player. Some of the games I played were Aladdin, Mortal Kombat and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Any retrogamers here? If so, what were your favorite games? Let's discuss some of our fond memories and lather in nostalgia. Wasn't Chun Li's little saying ("Atta!") after she won a battle the most annoying thing ever?

      Re: Retrogames

I still play red alert tiberian sun quite a bit if that counts as retro.

A couple months ago, my brother, cousin, and I fired up an old doom multiplayer deathmatch ... that was sweet.

Occasionally we'll play a short super mario 3 battle on super nintendo but that's about it with the old console... I have almost all of the old NES, SNES, etc games somewhere on my PC I think (emulated) but I can't say I play any.

Doom was brilliant. I love that game.

Super Mario 3 is one of my favorites in the series! It's much better than Super Mario 2, which I didn't care much for.

I used to have a bunch of those games emulated; Zophar's Domain was a good source. But playing them on the console is a different experience.

These games are all better than any games put out by XBox or PS2.

The Super Mario games and Donkey Kong are all classics!

I have a sweet spot in my heart for 'kickin' it old school.... Very few kids today would appreciate Pac Man (let aloe try to write a nerd-like version in BASIC.)

I lived with 3 x-navy nuclear engineers... (talk about not gettin a 'joke' sometimes... sheesh...) One of them was an IT guy and he basically 'played head-to-head DOOM' all the time at his 'job.' He was about to blow a guy visually/video apart, but some 'damn person had to call." No kiddin. He'd actually complain about people who called in for legit IT service for the sofrtware company he worked for....

THIS is a tiny example of exactly why I will try to keep my kid the hellaway from computer games.

                  Re: Retrogames

I play street fighter on my SNES in bursts of 10-15 mins, whenever I want to take a break. And Starcraft.

Actually, since Starcraft came out, I haven't felt the need to upgrade my computer once for gaming.

I was addicted to Starcraft a few years ago. I enjoyed it, even though I wasn't very good at it and was always accused of rushing by my teammates. I also remember there being many Koreans on the online servers.
