Texas school bans cleavage

August 5, 2006 - One north Texas school district has decided to do something about a cleavage controversy and is putting a stop to plunging necklines.
The school board in Arlington has adopted an unusual amendment to the student dress code. The new dress code says that: "The display of cleavage is unacceptable. Low cut blouses, tops, sweaters, etc. with plunging necklines are not allowed."

Some students agree there is a cleavage problem, while others say the new dress code will make back-to-school shopping more difficult.

Most parents support the new rule, but others worry that enforcing it could be a challenge.

“It's gotten bad enough that, unfortunately, our young males are looking at more than their English book, their speech book, their science book,” says school board president Sherri Wade. “And it's kind of nice to have something left to the imagination.”

What do you think of this?

Personally, I think it's ridiculous to blame poor performance on cleavage. On the other hand plunging necklines aren't appropriate either, but how do you enfore something like this? It's absurd. What are they gonna do next? Not allow tight fitting garments because the form of breasts are visible? Require them to be strapped down?
The school board president even says it's nice to leave somethign to the imagination. Imagining what's under there isn't a distraction then?

The world is full of distractions... if it's not one thing it's another. I don't see how this solves anything.
