        of course you enjoyed it...
surfer said the same exact thing and you were freaked out cuz you guys think alike...
it's like EVERYONE in this world, knowingly or not, has a purpose for living... people who lose that purpose they kill themselves...
        it's given
we don't have to "come up" with that kind of an idea.
        megha megha lol

You know, your criticizing nature can get a tad bit annoying sometimes.

Jahannam, this is not a chatroom...leave.

Fire, that is exactly my point. But, what is more interesting is our ability to make things mean somthing to us. Look at everything you have. You put meaning into it. Take meaning away. Think about a dollar bill for one second. Its really nothing. Think about your family. Those bonds are not recognized in heaven. Do I love my parents because they gave birth to me? Why should I? (I do love my parents) But besides that, I put meaning into the title parents. Take it away, and they are just another person....

Maybe the purpose of life is to find a purpose...who knows? If I was told that our existence means nothing and that I'm free of my obligations, I think I would still pursue my career goals. Not because I'm an ambitious nut but because I'm just...curious. What else is there to do but pursue satisfaction for your curiosities, right? Career or otherwise.

I also think that religion plays a very important role in this "what is the meaning of life?" question. This is where I stumble; for the first time in my life I'm moving towards agnosticism and even atheism. It's not fun when your entire belief system is pulled out from under your feet.

I recently had to write a lengthy paper in my philosophy class about existentialism. My topic was, "Can an existential atheist ultimately have hope?" Any thoughts on this? I'd love to hear what you guys think.

I think astrology is a science or a pseudoscience. I'm not sure but religion usualy involves some sort of deity. Hmm... :?

I don't necessarily get the "hope" part...hope for what?
but it's good you brought up existential atheism... the more I've read about those people's understandings of life, the more everything makes more sense to me...
but it sux how some people think existential atheists are people who have the "life sux lets kill ourselves" attitude.
                    so not true...
just cuz they think the "immortal" SOUL is a religious myth (which totally makes sense lol), and that Life has no intrinsic meaning, but that does not mean that life is not worth living.
they simply believe that we can give meaning to our lives through our actions... good and evil are up to the person's ideals (not your church's priest's)...
                    good stuff...
