I don't know about all of the things you've listed, but you're not exactly right about vitamin A.

Severe vitamin A deficiency impairs the functioning of the rod photoreceptors which are particularly important in low light conditions, but there are other sources of vitamin A. Eggs are an excellent source for example. Spinach and carrots do not contain vitamin A, but they are good sources of beta-carotene which we can convert to A. Not eating carrots isn't going to affect your vision though because there are other sources of vitamin A.

I believe that a 'Japanese' diet is one of the optimum diets... Many longitudinal studies support...

Seaweed has beneficial nutrients. Tofu (and soy in general) is great for overall health (especially for women.) Veggies are always good... In this healthy way to eat, meat (if in a meal at all) is a flavor condiment--not a 'food.' Often the flavor is homemade, without animal byproducts.

Eating less meat may help reduce osteoporosis risk
Want to reduce the risk of osteoporosis? Eat less meat, Cornell researchers say. In fact, they say, reducing the amount of meat in the diet may do more to reduce the risk of osteoporosis than increasing calcium intake.

            Many others...

cite one of those longitudinal studies that says the japanese diet is the optimum diet for japanese and non-japanese people alike.

I'd heard that soy products lower thyroid function.

Why the laugh emote, Siggie? You, by that, need to prove ME wrong. I'm not trying to be right. I want to be correct. If I am not (and I know quite a bit about medical and diet), please tell me. I'm not trying to prove anything, just stating what I believe based on what I've read and know.

Are you are fighting 'against' people eating veggies, soy and less meat? Is that the issue that made you respond? Or, is it the study that made you reply. I can give you that, easy. This is one:

AND... I said I 'Believe' a 'Japanese' diet is great. I'm talking soy, miso, seaweed, whole rice, many veggies, etc. I don't eat that always, but try to do so.

                    Re: healty eating

Unsupported claims are just a petpeeve. I had no problem with your belief. Saying there were longitudinal studies supporting that belief is another story.
Still, the study you provide is a summary of other research. Does not describe the methology of any of the research discussed. Recommends a diet based on the individual findings of at least half a dozen other studies, none of which tested the effect of those things combined, or the effect of such a diet on other indicators of health. Many of the were not longitudinal studies either. Admittedly, I skimmed the article, but they also didn't call that sort of a diet, a Japanese diet.

So, again, to make it clear... I'm not "fighting against people eating more or less of any of those things. I'm just pointing out that we should support our statements, especially when we make reference to scientific literature.
