Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Vote for Nader/Gonzalez 08'

Like a lot of other people, I'm sick of Democrats and Republicans hijacking everything from the common man for the benefit of corporate elitism. This includes but is not restricted to the erosion of our civil liberties, our privacy, our tax dollars, our workers' rights, and our safety due to expensive and inefficient healthcare, massive pollution, de-regulation of every major sector of the economy and a foreign policy which is highly polarized and antagonistic.

I wasn't going to vote at all unless Ralph Nader was in the race, since the main candidates and their parties are both controlled by the strings of corporatism. On the other hand, Nader has been fighting for the people and against corporations and their government cronies for around 50 years. Despite the fact he has never held office in the U.S., and despite the fact he has been fighting extremely powerful corporate and government forces, he has been instrumental in enacting: Mandatory seatbealts and airbags, nutritional facts on food, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Safe Drinking Water Act. He also helped create the Wholesome Meat Act, National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs), Public Citizen, The Disability Rights Center, the Pension Rights Center and many others. He has also started many non-profit organizations including:

    Citizen Advocacy Center
    Citizens Utility Boards
    Congress Accountability Project
Consumer Task Force For Automotive Issues
    Corporate Accountability Research Project
    Disability Rights Center
    Equal Justice Foundation
Foundation for Taxpayers and Consumer Rights
    Georgia Legal Watch
National Citizens' Coalition for Nursing Home Reform
National Coalition for Universities in the Public Interest
    Pension Rights Center
    PROD (truck safety)
    Retired Professionals Action Group
The Shafeek Nader Trust for the Community Interest
1969: Center for the Study of Responsive Law
    1970s: Public Interest Research Groups
    1970: Center for Auto Safety
    1970: Connecticut Citizen Action Group
    1971: Aviation Consumer Action Project
    1972: Clean Water Action Project
1972: Center for Women's Policy Studies
    1973: Capitol Hill News Service
1980: Multinational Monitor (magazine covering multinational corporations)
1982: Trial Lawyers for Public Justice
1982: Essential Information (encourage citizen activism and do investigative journalism)
1983: Telecommunications Research and Action Center
1983: National Coalition for Universities in the Public Interest
1989: Princeton Project 55 (alumni public service)
    1993: Appleseed Foundation (local change)
1994: Resource Consumption Alliance (conserve trees)
    1995: Center for Insurance Research
    1995: Consumer Project on Technology
1997?: Government Purchasing Project (encourage purchase of safe products)
1998: Center for Justice and Democracy
    1998: Organization for Competitive Markets
1998: American Antitrust Institute (ensure fair competition)
1999?: Arizona Center for Law in the Public Interest
1999?: Commercial Alert (protect family, community, and democracy from corporations)
2000: Congressional Accountability Project (fight corruption in Congress)
2001: Citizen Works (promote NGO cooperation, build grassroots support, and start new groups)
2001: Democracy Rising (hold rallies to educate and empower citizens)

In short, the man has a long and solid record which far surpasses that of any of the other candidates. For this reason alone he gets my vote. Read the links I provide below, and if you like his positions, give him your vote instead of wasting it on corporate puppets who will erode all your liberties and rights as soon as they get elected, while smiling in your face. Nader is around 7% in the national polls right now despite the fact he has recieved no media coverage, so spread the word. He doesn't need to win, he just needs to get some of these issues on the table by having a decent turnout and making some noise.

Here is his official campaign website: www.votenader.org

You can check out his stance on the main issues here: http://www.votenader.org/issues/

Some videos to get a taste of his ideas:

Ralph Nader visits Google's Mountain View, CA, headquarters as part of the Policy Talks@Google series. This event took place on May 12, 2008.

No, their politics don't jive with mine. They are socialists. I hate socialists.

I do not believe in voting. If I were to vote, for the sake of argument, I'd much sooner vote for Ron Paul than Nader.

even if i wanted to, i still wouldn't b/c in order for a 3rd party to win, they'd have to be on every ballot, and be in every debate starting from the primary season. There's no way they can go up against people who have been in the media's eye for more than a year.

There are 2 reasons the likes of Ralph Nader and members of other parties who know they will never make it run,

      1. Because they believe that they can win and even if they don't they will make a difference.
      2. To remind people they exist and to sell books

Ralph Nader is the second reason

Just curious, which policies do you disagree with?

Never understood this argument. If his platform was the most appealing, why wouldn't you vote for him? Do you know how many millions of people share this view? If everyone just voted for the candidate of his/her choice, Nader's poll numbers (and that of other 3rd party candidates) would be much higher and they would eventually have to be included in the debates.

The lesser of two evils is still evil. Hypothetically, if there were 3 candidates, and the 2 leading candidates were pro-slavery, would you vote for the one who is slightly less pro-slavery, or would you vote for the 3rd candidate who opposes it altogether?

Depends on who the slaves were. :P

As Mouse as said before, if voting actually changed anything it would be illegal.

to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

True, and I wasn't going to vote at first. But in U.S. history all the major issues (abolishment of slavery, women's right to vote, civil rights movement and others) were advocated by third parties who lost elections, but they made so much noise that the main parties adopted their stance on the issues. Thats the only practical purpose of voting for a third party. I don't actually think he will win... he even said so himself.

Anything that socialists believe in, I do not believe in.

Most of these disagreements come down to gripes about economics and economic knowledge, which socialists are completely ignorant about as history, and policy have evidenced thus far.

I don't want to get into the nuances of these things since I think it will take away the focus of the general thread (the thread being about voting).

However, voting is overrated. In fact, democracy is arguably the worst form of government ever manifested.

Why do you think democracy has been so popular or widespread in recent times?

I think democracy is ridiculous too:

                    - it implies having political factions within a country instead of a single, effective power
                    - it requires of leaders to step down to the public's level and be elected on the basis of popularity amongst half-wits and thus, bring out the same regressive traits in the leaders
                    - it has no ability to stand up foreign powers or domestic dissenting factions on its own and requires a corrupt oligarchical leadership hiding behind the curtains to play such a role
                    - The very notion of running a country by legislating laws based on have over 50% backing through votes in itself implies schizophrenic, multiple personality government.
                    - The aforementioned is but one of the factors that leads to the wasteful and numbing effect of a bureaucracy.
