So what is the 'French' nation? Cathars? Aquitanians? Bretons? They didn't even all speak French until a couple hundred years ago, even if they were often ruled over by a French-speaking king. Actually, many of the people in Brittany, from what I know, still speak their Celtic Breton rather than French.

In his mind, it makes him appear witty and creative, since he can't really respond in substance, he figures he will just respond in some clever cute sort of way to deflect from his lack of content. It seems that tiny creatures cannot handle an adrenaline rush without succumbing to hysteria or wild imagination. That was a "cut-and-paste" error that I will soon correct it. Thank you for mentioning it.

What I find amusing is how the Siamanto knows so much about Al Bundy. It was a good show indeed, wasn't it? Sure, it might not be the equivalent of sitting through a lecture by Lacan or Foucault, but it brings you down from the clouds where you can sort of see what the pesky inferiors on earth are doing. - Navarre and the Spanish "ingredient"
- Provence and the Greek/Roman ingredient. Marseille was founded by the Greeks. Of course, the Roman ingredient is not limited to Provence. There may have been some minor??? Armenian presence in the South.
- Normandy and the Normands i.e. "Nord Man" who were Vikings
- Germanic tribes like the Franks and the Vandals
- The Basque Country
- Corsica
- All the Poles, Russians, Italians etc. who migrated to France during the last two centuries
- ...

Yes, many still speak Breton. I had Breton friends who, though born in Paris, spoke some Breton.
