Re: Changing The Way You Think

Nobody to talk to who takes me seriously, and knows me personally. People online don't seem to care, and if they do, they can only help so much.

People grow up, they mature, and eventually change the way they look at life. Yes, I know. But how is it possible for me to look at life a complete different way I did two years ago? I don't necessarily believe it's healthy, either. It's not always for the better, at least.

Two years ago, I would have approached today's problems completely differently. My perspective on drugs, people, school, and life has dramatically changed. I am a complete different person. But how did this all of a sudden happen? It feels like I woke up a new person, suddenly. I no longer listen to the same music, or do the same things when I'm with friends. I feel like all of a sudden, I'm an adult. But, I don't like it. I feel guilty if I do something "childish", so, I don't do it.

I look at my music as a waste of time. I see no reason to continue. I don't even appreciate Rap music anymore. At all. While I was driving home today, I took a look at myself. I was dressed a complete different way I did two years ago. I was listening to music I probably wouldn't have cared to listen to two years ago. I'm living a lifestyle that isn't mine. It's a good lifestyle, I'm a much better person, but I think it all happened too quick.

      What do you guys think?

People change, but it can be argued they only change within the framework of what they were born as. Just as you were born with a certain DNA and nucleotides and genes that cannot be altered without damaging you, so too you cannot change who you are. The only thing that changes is your realization of yourself. This might be hard to conceptualize at first (and some might argue it conflicts with free will but I say it doesn't and it's too tedious to derail this thread now), but think of it in terms of spirit. Your spirit and essence, your being and character, and your life of mind are complete and whole the minute you are born. Your DNA is imprinted into your soul and your soul is imprinted into your DNA, thus forming the whole you. When your consciousness meets your DNA, the spark of you is set. There is no other you except the complete you.

It is akin to the Dharma wheel whereby wholeness, truth, completeness and realization are in the center. There are many paths that lead to it, but they all lead there. It's not so much that you changed, as much as it is you gradually coming to terms and finding your path.

Of course, this is only one explanation. You can very well argue otherwise. This is called, not so much change, but an alteration within the system of you: you are like a rubiks cube in which the little cubes and colors are constantly shifting to be complete. To completely change your character and soul, well, that is a very rare thing not done by many. Hence, once a thief always a thief, once a cheat always a cheat, once a murderer always a murderer. Have you noticed how in the myriad of documentaries about serial killers, they have always been weirdos from the beginning? There was always something about the instrinsic nature of their character that in hindsight you see "Yea, something was really phucked up with this kid".
